Hi Ken,
We survived the end of the ride but I am still recovering. The 90km day
proved to be pretty tough. Endless hills, my speedo said 1200metres of
climbing and a head wind all day. To top it off when we had done 93
there was still 7 to go because the organisers couldnt count. Some had
done this ride on a prev trip but had taken 2 days to do it. We left at
about 7am and got in at 4pm totally stuffed. There was a big crowd at
the pub at the finish and everyone crossing the line got a loud
cheer. The last day was pretty cruisey after that - we were drafting
behind another couple of tandems at about 35kph until my legs gave out
on the hills. There was a party atmosphere at the end and we had our
photo taken for the local paper hooking into a double bacon sandwhich.
The drive home was pretty long but we had a look at the new F7 bikeway -
pretty impressive with its fly-overs and lighting. David is pretty keen
to do next years so I guess we will be there. They didnt know where it
will be except that it will be on the coast and in March or April. There
was also talk of a 4 day ride in the Hunter Valley I think camping in
one spot and doing day rides out to wineries. The said they would
transport your wine. I dont think the details of that one are finalised
yet but it sounds interesting.
Good luck with the knee. Hope to see you at the get together in Sydney
if we can get our act together and organise it.
Chris
