If you have been following this case or have any feelings about it you might want to write to the DA who anticipates the defense will flood the Judge with "good character" letters on their client's behalf. As a result this may very well limit his (i.e. Dr Thompson's) sentence to only probation. Read here for the story and the DA's plea for letters (from us - i.e the cycling community) on the victim's behalf. You can also email the DA (contact information is on the above link) but they need to be submitted by Nov 20th.

Dear El Camino Bike shop,

I would like to ask you if you would know french speaking bike riders in San Diego. The Canadian TV producers for the show "Amerique a Velo" (America on Bike) will be in San Diego from Dec 1st to Dec 3rd. The show host Yvan Martineau wants to ride with them (road, cruiser or mountain bike) to their favorite spot, share some grub and hang out at interesting places.

If you are interested, please contact the research team at:

Marie-Josee Brunelle m_brunelle@videotro n.ca

Julie Ducharme 1.514.282.1010 ext.331 Julie_d_@hotmail. com

I am personally taking them at Lake Hodges, meet at Hernandez Hideaway at 9:30am on Dec 1st. We will ride the North shores to the bridges and back on upper trail. Everyone is invited to this ride.

Please pass this information and let Canadians know that San Diego is a great place to ride your bike!

I had a chance to ride mountain bikes with, and have dinner with Joe Parkin in
Austin, TX last Friday. He is the author of a book called, A Dog in a Hat. If
the book is half as interesting as the author, it is a must read….

Joe spent 6 years as a pro cyclist racing in Belgium and his book is sort of a
"tell all" about the pro cycling scene in Europe.

I have ordered a copy. It is about $15 at Amazon.

Almost 25 Swami's showed up for the RSF Club Race and 16 of those were A category racers. After talking with a previous race director it was decided that any Swami who shows up to a club is eligible for points and prizes, regardless of USCF racing category. This should motivate some of the DET boys to come play. Anyway, the race consisted of six laps, each four miles long with a decent climb leading up to the start/finish.

The B's and C's went off eight minutes in front of the A's as motivation for the A's not to wait until the last lap to kick up the pace. Both groups kept up a good pace with the A's turning in ten and half minute lap times, while the B's and C's group rode 12 minute laps. There were two KOM point primes at the end of laps 2 and 4. James Enright used his track training to grab both primes in the A's, Reed and Peter Nesbitt split the primes in the B's, and Mike Sofen easily won both points in the C's.

If you did the math comparing starting time gap to lap time differential you probably realized that the widdled down group of A's caught the similarly reduced group of B's and C's on the last lap. Ultimately, Pascal took home the win for the A's with Steve Masterson right on his Belgian tail. Roger snagged the win for the B's as Reed placed second. The lone C, Mike Sofen, held off himself for a strong win. Results attached.

The next race is scheduled to be held on Sunday, December 6th. The Fall race series is a bit more on the fly than the Spring race series, so I was thinking that we should do another RSF circuit race because it's fun, fast, and a ferociously good workout. What are your thoughts?

Swamis,

I hate to do it, but it just makes sense to sell the road bike I spent so much
time and energy (and money) building. The bike is a 2009 Specialized S-Works
Tarmac SL2. Simply put, it's an amazing road machine. And did I mention that
it weighs 13.52 pounds with clincher wheels, pedals, two bottle cages, and a
computer? Not bad, huh? :-)

The size is 56cm - detailed geometry specs can be found on the Specialized site.

More information about my bike including a detailed parts list and photos (and
pricing) can be found here:
http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/bik/1465650784.html

I spent over $8000 building this bike and was only able to ride it 26 miles.
More than half the parts are new - 0 miles. I'm asking $4600 and will consider
reasonable offers.

I am definitely willing to work with a fellow Swami if there's any interest ...
I'd love to see the bike get ridden locally.

Feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions: btorio@...

Thanks.

Brian

Gurus,

Don't forget the membership meeting is this Monday Nov 16 from 7 to 9pm at the Dove Library - 1775 Dove Lane, Carlsbad (next to the La Costa Theaters) All 2009 and 2010 members are invited and encouraged to attend.

The nights agenda is Club Structure, Member Benefits, 2010 Sponsors, Club Activities and Programs, Governance, Financials and Open Discussion.

And just in case hanging out with your friends and talking bikes isn't incentive enough to get you out of the house, please consider that several sponsors including the SockGuy will be discussing their products/services as well as special offers that they have in store for Swamis members.  It should be a fun and informative evening so please plan to attend.

Yo Swamis,

I'm getting the word out-  My friend and late 80's and present day racing buddy Thom Kezas is starting a regular ride with his Big City Velo club and he wanted to let Swamis know about it. It is going to be a regular Saturday 8-30AM ride up through Camp Pendleton starting tomorrow at the 101 Carlsbad Starbucks. He wants the ride to be a developmental ride with moderate speed, consistent pacelines and like-ability training groups eventually. Any and all riders are welcome. If you are game, or you know someone who would like this ride, see below for details. If you go,  look for Thom tommorrow at Starbucks in black Big City Velo ecoutrements.

Sincerely,

Geoff

Hey Doyley,

Here's the info for the ride. It will start the Saturday after the Velodrome Swap Meet. If you can get it forwarded to your distribution list, that would be great.

Thanks!

gurus,
it has been a pleasure to ride for Swamis' this past year. In my short time as a
Swami I have represented the club in 6 countries on 2 continents, received great
advice, numerous lifts and at least one couch to sleep on from Swamis and FOS,
been laughed at by French people for looking like a smurf, felt welcome a long
way from home been on some great rides and felt proud to wear your kit.

Next year sees the beggining of a new adventure for me; i'm going to be riding
for team type 1 - this team obviously makes great sense for mea dn is a move up
in the cycling world. After this season taking a long time to get going and
having a few setbacks a long the way i am excited to see what i can achieve with
this set up next year.

I would particularly like to thank Chris Daggs and Kam who have both given me
valuable advice when i wasn't feeling all that positive about bicycle racing at
points this year. Turns out they were right and things have turned out fine!

I'll see you on the road
James

FS: Zipp 404 carbon tubular wheelset.

These wheels will be a great deal for some luck buyer. Handbuilt by Matt @ B &
L. Deep carbon aero rims. The rims are old, but have been updated with new
decals (these are genuine Zipp rims). Both wheels are in great shape with no
cracks or dings. The rear rim is old and has some dimpling caused by spoke
tension, but I have never had problems with it; Matt says it's fine. Since it's
an older rim and a bit heavier than the newer rims it's probably more durable!
Here are the specs:

Front:
American Classic Micro superlight front hub with cartridge bearings (recently
overhauled - super smooth) 16 hole
16 Sapim CX-Ray lightweight black aero spokes with alloy nipples
Zipp 404 tubular rim

Rear:
Dura Ace 7700 rear cassette freehub 24 hole
24 Sapim CX-Ray lightweight black aero spokes with alloy nipples
Zipp 404 tubular rim

I will include 2 Continental tubular tires (they are used but in usable
condition. The front wheel has a tire glued on but the rear will need to be
glued), a wheel bag that fits both wheels, an 11-23 Shimano 10 speed cogset, and
a set of carbon brake pads.

This is a great deal for someone looking for carbon race wheels and they don't
want to spend $2000!!!

$850.00 cash or Paypal preferred.

Thanks for looking!

Gurus,

Some great news! The 2009 tax credit of $8000 for home buyers has been extended
into 2010. If you are in the market to buy a home, whether you are a First Time
Home buyer or someone who has owned and looking to buy again, this affects you.
I thought this was worthwhile information for you to know about.

I put together a small table in the attachment that compares the 2009 initiative
with the new 2010 initiative.

Hope you enjoy the information.
