Between the alleged defective fuel system vents and the Dunpop tires
blowing chunks all over the place, the actual results at Daytona were a far
cry from the predictions put forth. I dreaded looking at the entries, but
the only good thing was that there were very few of them this year. I don't
know if it was general apathy, confusion as to the entries, or my waiting
until two weeks to announce the pool. Hopefully next year will be better.
I was almost tempted to say that everybody's predictions were out to lunch
and declare no winners this year, but that wouldn't be right, especially
for the Tenth Annual Pool. I also tossed the deadline out the window to
help me out a little. With no explanation forthcoming, the 2007 winners
are:
Jay Barfield - Superbike
Laura Perry - FX
Congratulations to both of you! I'll be contacting you both to arrange for
delivery of your prizes.
Note that both Laura and Jay are now two-time pool winners!

PG&E begins work to restore power at Pinky's By Theresa Harrington CONTRA
COSTA TIMES
*WALNUT CREEK - *Temporarily setting aside a dispute over who owns failed
power equipment outside Pinky's Pizza and the Sunrise Cafe, PG&E is trying
to fix the problem today.
The company has faced mounting public pressure to restore power since the
businesses closed March 5. Pinky's had operated using generator power from a
month, while waiting for PG&E and the property owner to resolve a dispute
over who owned a power supply box and cable that failed Feb. 6.
The business owners had been planning a rally at 10 a.m. Saturday in front
of their shuttered businesses to beg PG&E to restore power to their
buildings. PG&E spokesman Paul Moreno said he was aware of the rally plans,
but the company began work today because the property owner agreed to
authorize it now and haggle over who should pay for it later.
"This is a case where we let legal differences get in the way of doing the
best thing for our customers," Moreno said. "We regret that and we're now
working to get power to the customers as soon as possible."
The rally may end up being a celebration if the power is restored, said
Pinky's Pizza owner Tom Beisheim.
"I'm pretty excited," Beisheim said, as he watched five PG&E trucks pull up
outside his vacant restaurant. "What I'm really disappointed about is that
it had to go this far. It's amazing that when we started arranging this
rally, the very next day, we've got PG&E ready to fix it."
Even if power is restored today, Beisheim said it isn't likely he could
reopen until Tuesday, because he'll need to rehire employees, wait for his
freezer to cool down, buy perishable food and make pizza dough and sauce.
"I just want to get back into business," he said.

Pinky’s Pizza opened in 1962 and has been the local hangout for Las Lomas
High School and Walnut Creek citizens ever since. As matter of fact people
come from all over to have the “Pinky’s Pizza Experience”. Tom Beisheim has
worked at Pinky’s since 1970 and became part owner in 1974. He took over
ownership in 1992 and has been sole proprietor ever since.
An avid motorcyclist, TomPinky as we all know him has helped and supported
the community throughout his tenure at Pinky’s Pizza and supported many
motorcycle racers with sponsorship and award money though the AFM
(http://www.afmracing.org/) and sometimes privately with friends.
I’m sorry to say Pinky’s Pizza will be closing this Sunday March 4th 2007
at 10pm. It was not Tom’s intention to close this way but due to
circumstances beyond his control this weekend will be his last at Pinky’s
and Pinky’s Pizza will no longer be. I have been going to Pinky’s Pizza
since I moved to Walnut Creek in 1964 and have known TomPinky since the
early 70’s. I’ve raced motorcycles with and against him and consider him to
be one of my best friends.
It’s sad to see a institution like Pinky’s Pizza go, but as a owner of one
of Walnut Creek’s oldest business’s (Walnut Creek Vacuum and Electric Motor
Service @ 57 years) I know how hard it is to make a small business succeed
over many years and not many work as hard at it as TomPinky has.
The problem started last month when power to Pinky’s Pizza was interrupted
by bad wires between the building and the PG&E supply. Now a month later
and running on large generators 24 hours a day at great expense and no
resolution in sight TomPinky has no option but close his doors. We will all
miss the many friends who gather at Pinky’s to reminisce old times and new
events but most of all the history that surrounds Pinky’s Pizza. A first
date or a after the game celebration or the place to start a weekend
motorcycle ride, Pinky’s has always been there and it’s a sad day indeed to
see this icon close.

Not enough runoff for SuBike, but could be perfect for
SuMo, especially if the tops of the buildings could be
spectator areas.

you care about these words.
Hi there,
I am SAM, an Iraqi refugee living in Lebanon at the moment; I have spent the
last 10 years of my life as a refugee registered with the UNHCR in Beirut. The
last 4 years, I have spent as an activist for peace and human rights (especially
refugees and asylum seekers) on the Internet; I'm also books author and ebooks
publisher. I have launched many campaigns to improve our situation as refugees
in Lebanon and hopefully bring more understanding to our problems worldwide. I
helped make many changes and improvements at the UNHCR office in Beirut; I used
the Internet as the field for my activities (you can read more about that in my
free ebook 'MY CAMPAIGNS'). All my ebooks are free and could be download from my
sites.
This is my newest campaign, it's about the illegal and humiliating actions of
the UNHCR, who using photos of refugees as banners and human-buttons to collect
money. This is an abuse of the dignity and humanity of the refugees and must
stop immediately and a clear public apology present by The United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees. My friends, I am talking about the pictures you can
see here:
http://www.angelfire.com/al4/un77/human-buttons.htm
Where you can read the rest of this message as web page.
Also you can read my new campaign 'Urgent, we need smile' here:
http://cybcity.com/unhcrlebanon/smile.html
For more info about UNHCR and life of refugees you can read my free ebooks. I
invite you as fellow humans and members of the world community to support my
campaign by reading my article on my site and see the human-buttons. The
campaign is to support and improve the UNHCR http://www.unhcr.ch especially
after the last scandals in the UN and UNHCR, just for example:
The refugees allege that UNHCR staff is selling most of the food items they are
supposed to be supplied.
"They aren't supplying sufficient food to us because they sell most of the food
items," they allege: http://allafrica.com/stories/200503140214.html
Here is another example: Burmese Refugees Withdraw Protest Against UNHCR
http://www.mizzima.com/archives/news-in-2005/news-in-april/12-April05-22.htm
"We make demonstration and fast because the UNHCR office in Cairo did nothing
for our problem..." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/4440730.stm
Together we will build better world.
You could reach me fast via this form: http://un4.pochta.ru/email_me.htm
and if you like to know more about me, you can google for my name 'osam
