There was an announcement last year that there would be no red
flagging the race due to rain, that it was up to the riders to do hot
pit stops (Like in F1). I always thought that the second leg on
aggregate time was a total waste of viewing time. Imagine my
disappointment when I read the press release a couple of weeks
ago, which stated that the riders managed to convince the FIM to
go back to stopping the race, with the stipulation that the second
leg be restarted ASAP.
Something seemed strange after the restart. The top
three guys were RACING! Then I noticed that there was not the
usual mention that Rossi didn't have to push it because he had
such a great lead in the first leg!. Sete crosses the line just a hair in
front and is declared THE WINNER!
This is ironic because for years the AMA riders have been
complaining about restarting in this manner (They wanted to race
by aggregate time, just like the FIM!) and now MotoGP is doing it
the AMA way!
It's definitely better for the spectators.
