Hi fellow pickup-ers,
If you haven't already heard, we're officially done playing at Columbia, at least for the foreseeable future. Last week, one of the VPs of the Seminary (Marty Sadler, VP for Business & Finance) came out to the field and told us that construction was imminent and that fences were going up this past week. They've asked us not to play due to safety concerns.
We've talked quite a bit in the last few months about finding an alternative location, but at this moment, nothing is definite. As things stand right now, I think Renfroe may be our best immediate solution, and - over on the AFDC forum - someone who works at Decatur High has said he'll check into reserving it for us. We can, of course, go over there anyway - I doubt anyone else is using the field - but Gyasi making an attempt to get a game going up in Brookhaven, and, at least for this week, I told him I'd support that.
The question is whether we want to try to continue to do something closer to our original location. I would love to see our tradition continue - I think our game has become an important part of ultimate community - and, of course, I'd love to have something closer to my house. But there seems to be a demand for pickup farther north, and I think it makes sense to have 1 good game rather than 2 poor ones. I guess I'm wondering whether there's enough demand for two good games.
I'm going to head up to Brookhaven later today - if the weather breaks - but I remain open to trying to get something started back down here. If anyone has any thoughts, I'd be happy to listen.
