Re: [sundayulti] Summer League, 2007

I'm interested but I will only be able to make it once every two weeks.  Yes, that's 25% availability.

This is pretty last minute, but I just wanted to put this out there, in case there was any interest.

In years past, players from this game have often fielded a team in AFDC's summer league, an organized season of games by Atlanta's predominate ultimate organization.  For a number of years, they played as the "Winnona Ryders", named after this nearby school where our game was played for a while, then the last two year or so were part of Coyote Medicine.  I haven't seen any reference of either of these teams (or anyone else) putting together a team from Columbia, so I thought I'd make this offer: I'll try to get a team together if there's sufficient support.

We would need no less than 5 or 6, and probably more like 7 or 8 confirmed players who could commit to the whole season (early June through mid August) and who are available most weeks to play the two night schedule.  (I don't have a day-of-the-week preference, I guess Tues/Thurs makes more sense than Mon/Thurs, so that people can still play pickup, but I'm flexible).  Because it's a co-ed league, I'd also want a line on at least two fairly dependable females.  I think there's a supplemental draft, so I would be able to add to these numbers to make the core, but that's really the minimum to get started.

I'm not especially concerned about talent.  It would be nice to win a few games, and maybe even knock off an odd powerhouse, but I wouldn't have any real expectations of contending.  I just think it might be fun to see what we could do with what we got, work on our playing and teamwork skills, and build a little comradery.  There really does have to be enough people from Columbia, though...I'm not interested in putting together a team just for T- shirts (though I have a great name/logo idea, if we get that far).

We'd have to do this quickly; registration closes next Monday, May 21, and I'm not completely sure that Teddy's still taking captains.  But we've at least got through the weekend, and we could talk about it this coming Sunday if it looks like it will happen.  Try to email me before then if you think you're likely.

If, by chance, someone is doing a game out of Columbia: I'm sorry, I didn't know, the dog ate my homework, it wasn't my fault.  I'll gladly forward any responses I get, I'm not trying to poach.  And if we don't get it together for the summer, we might could try again in the fall, when there's a little more time.

If you need to know more about Summer league, check the  AFDC web site (www.afdc.com and especially this post: http://www.afdc.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=653), or the flyer I forwarded to this list last week.  If you're interested in what I'm looking to do and my philosophy of playing, email me and give you more info.  If you're looking for a team but aren't sure if you can commit or are looking for something else, let me know that, and I can suggest alternatives..

Anyway, just thought I'd put it out there.  Again, let me know if you're interested right away.  Otherwise, see you on the field.

J.R.
