Jan, 2012: Unfortunately, we're on hiatus for a while. We may try to start back August 2012. Join this list if you want to be kept aware of developments.
This is the email list for the Sunday ultimate pickup game played at Coan Recreation Center in the Kirkwood neighborhood of Atlanta, GA. (We sometimes play at the school directly across Hosea Williams Dr.) We play year 'round, typically starting about 3:30 in the winter (Standard time) and 4:30 - 5:00 in the summer (Daylight Savings). Feel free to join this list if you want to keep in the loop on weather advisories, field updates, or just to get to know us better.
We're a long standing, but informal game that has consistently had good attendance through the years. We welcome all abilities, ages and genders of players, though most of our players have at least a working knowledge of the rules. We're pretty pet and family friendly and it's a rare week when neither canines nor children are present. If you should decide to bring your pooch out, please remember to bring poop bags and leash stakes, for the sake of your fellow players.
The field is an intermediate-length recreational field which has a pretty good covering of grass. Many of our players wear cleats for added traction.
We generally play light/dark teams, so bring both a light (white) and dark shirt to try to keep the teams balanced. There are no bathroom facilities at the field, so go before you get there. The only liquid is a small water fountain that sometimes works; you'll be glad if you bring some along.
Many of us have known each other for a long time, and occasionally hang at the field or go for a bite afterward. Feel free to bring a beverage for after the game if you'd like, but remember to take your trash with you.
Hope to see you out there.
