Due to the busy Christmas period and the lack of cocktail frocks in Sturt wardrobes, the Cocktail evening planned for December 5^th has been abandoned due to poor responses.

The Sturt Social / Fundraising Committee pledges to continue to push the envelope and we hope that members will support the wine sales.

Remember that all funds raised are done so for the players of the Sturt Softball Club.

Reminder that next Tuesday the 27th is the last night to buy tickets for Sturt Softball Club Quiz Night (Adults $12, Child under 16 $6 and family $28) - see your team managers at training or phone Grant Taylor (0407970571) to buy tickets.  Support your club, get a table of 10 together (or let us put you on a table) and come along for a fun filled night. To be held Friday 30th October at 7pm at the Adelaide Hockey Club Clubroom on Greenhill Road.

Sturt Falcons Fundraising Committee

On Sunday 18 October, Sturt is rostered for Diamond Duty between 9 and 11am.  This involves cleaning the diamonds and grandstand after Saturday games.  We are required to have at least 4 people otherwise the club is fined.  We are aiming for many more than 4 volunteers – 1 per team would be great - it shares the load and is much more fun.

The Sturt Softball Club is pleased to advise that we will have a Christmas Cocktail Party on Saturday 5^th December 2009 at Ann and Kim Thomas's home at 24 Westall St Hyde Park.

The night kicks off from 8.00 pm till late!

The Cocktail Party is an opportunity for senior players, parents and supporters of the club to enjoy fine wine, beer and champagne together with finger food in a child free environment.

This is an opportunity for everyone to dress up for the social event of the year for the Falcons Softball Club. Come along in your black tie or lounge suit and ladies get out your best cocktail dresses!!

Falcons Softball Fundraising Committee

This season Sturt have entered a total of 11 teams in the Adelaide Competition (4 senior and 7 junior).  We are required as part of our affiliation with the South Australian Softball Association (SASA) and the Adelaide Competition to supply one umpire per team per week.  If we fail to meet one of our assigned umpiring commitments, the Club is fined.

Our club is managed entirely by volunteers who fulfil a range of roles including as coaches, managers, committee members, scorers etc.  In recent years a small number of overworked volunteers have tended to meet most of our umpiring responsibilities. 

We want an approach that is more sustainable, that shares responsibility more evenly between players and parents and that provides opportunities for players and parents to learn about other facets of the game.

The bad news - all players will be charged an umpiring levy in 2009-10

In 2009-10, we will trial the introduction of a $40 umpiring levy (ie in addition to annual fees) to enable us to reimburse those players and parents who donate their time and skills to umpire.

The good news - players and parents can earn back the levy and more!

We are seeking nominations from interested players and parents who may be interested in undertaking (and being paid for!) umpiring duties as part of the Sturt Umpiring Panel.  We will even provide training for all who want it!

Nominating Panel members should indicate how many games they want to be considered for ie every week, fortnightly, monthly.  The more people who nominate the fewer the responsibilities.  All plate umpires will be paid $30 per game and base umpires $15 per game.  Payment will be made in a lump sum at the end of the season.

This year there are a number of vacancies in the A and B Grade teams, and the
Sunday morning training sessions will be the basis for team selection for the
first game on 10 October.  All players are urged to attend.
If for some reason you cannot attend, please advise Dick Coombe.

Players are reminded that this Sunday is Uniform Day at our regular Sunday
training session.  Please come ready to try on and order any uniform
requirements.
