The question of air bag removal came up awhile back. I promised to
find the source of my rambling and here it is:
14.2
E. Any steering wheel may be used.
In the July 2002 Fastrack:
Add new section 14.2 F."Driver and front passenger air bags may be
electrically disaled but not removed." Renumber following subsections as
needed. Note:This item was never intended to override the steering wheel
allowance of 14.2 E, but rather to refer to other airbags (e.g.
passenger-side dash) in the front area of the car.
So this says you can not remove the passenger air bag but can
remove the drivers air bag. And the driver air bag removal is only there
for a steering wheel change.
My question is what if a car was in a fender bender that deployed
the bags? Is it required that they be replaced?
