2006 Padres replay: April 10, Fitzsimmons slams Marlins, Padres win 10-6
Today's game started off with the Padres scoring 2 runs off of Mitre right from
the start. But the Marlins put a 4 spot in the bottom of the 1st inning,
starting with a Hanley Ramirez solo homer and a Mike Jacobs 3-run blast. It
would be 5-2 Florida as Dan Uggla's solo homer in the 3rd inning made the
comeback more inevitable. But San Diego would tie it up, with 3 runs in the 4th
inning, highlighted by Philip Fitzsimmons' game-tying double. The scoring died
down until the 7th, when Uggla's sac fly scored Reggie Abercrombie, who reached
on a Fitzsimmons error, making it 6-5 Florida. However, for the fans in South
Florida, the 8th inning proved to be the crushing blow, as San Diego scored 5
times to make the final score 10-6, as Fitzsimmons took a Randy Messenger pitch
to the upper deck for a grand slam.
Fitzsimmons was 3-for-4 with 6 RBI tonight as San Diego improved to 3-3.
Dave Roberts, Brian Giles and Mike Piazza each had 2 hits and an RBI.
Roberts scored 3 times, Terrmel Sledge crossed home twice, and 7 different
Padres scored at least a run today.
Woody Williams was the winning pitcher, despite allowing 5 runs in 6 innings of
work.
The Padres and Marlins meet again tomorrow, with Dewon Brazleton pitching for
San Diego and Brian Moehler on the hill for Florida.
