Josh Fogg was blasted by San Diego, allowing 10 runs and 10 hits in 3 1/3
innings.
David Cortes allowed the other 4 runs, only 1 was earned, he also absorbed 5
hits, mopping up in the 8th.
FOR THE PADRES:
Let's start with Philly Fitz. Philip Fitzsimmons was 3-for-4 with a 2-run homer
in the 4th inning, and he drove in 4, as his '06 totals are .692-2-7 (yes,
10-for-13!)
Mike Piazza (.417-1-3) and Khalil Greene (.286-1-2) also came up big, Piazza was
2-for-4, and Greene hit his 1st homer of 06.
Besides Fitzsimmons and Piazza, 4 other Friars had a multi-hit game:Terrmel
Sledge (2 for 5, .286-1-2), Geoff Blum had 3 hits (.417-0-0), Josh Barfield
rapped 2 hits (.364-0-3) and Shawn Estes had 3 hits, he even drove in 3 runs!
Brian Giles (.273-0-3) knocked in 2 runs as well.
Speaking of Estes, he went the distance, 1 run and 4 hits allowed and 9
strikeouts. Great performance!
GAME #2, APRIL 8:
Padres 7-9-0, Rockies 1-6-1
Once again, Philip Fitzsimmons had another multi-hit game, going 2-for-4, now he
is 12-for-17. He also added 3 more rbi to his total, now he has 2 homers and 10
rbi...and this is only his 4th major league game! Terrmel Sledge had 2 rbi,
while Brian Giles and Mike Piazza each knocked in a run in this rout of
Colorado. Dewon Brazleton shut out the Rox for 5 frames allowing just 3 hits.
Colorado's only run came in the 8th as Matt Holliday's single scored Clint
Barmes, but the Friars got back to .500 with a 7-1 win.
GAME #3, APRIL 9:
Rockies 1-4-0, Padres 0-3-0 (in 10 innings)
FOR THE ROCKIES:
Jason Jennings was solid, pitching 9innings, allowing 3 hits, whiffing 7.
Todd Helton broke a scoreless tie in the 10th with a solo homer off Jake Peavy.
Jamey Carroll had 2 of the Rockies' 4 hits.
FOR THE PADRES (2-3):
Jake Peavy (0-2) went the distance, allowing 1 run and 4 hits while striking out
10. His ERA is still a very disappointing 8.10, but it's still early.
Brian Giles (.300-0-4) had 2 of San Diego's 3 hits, including a double.
Sadly, Jason Jennings kept Philip Fitzsimmons in check, Philly Fitz was 0-for-4
today, his first hitless game of his career.
