Also, a bad year for him was -5.

I play in a retro league (currently 1970) and this conversation stream spurred
me to contact strat.
Here is their one sentence answer.
"The game only supports -5 as a maximum rating, there is no such thing as a
-6. That is just Steve being Steve.....
SOM"
So don't start changing your ratings, throwing arm is very subjective. Mays
had great arm and some -5's, Colavito was there once or twice, and I think dave
parker and Furillo. Although Mays and Colavito are the only ones who may have
been Roberto's equal. It seems some of Clemente's reputation stems from his
having retained a great arm for longer than most.

I think this was Hal's way of playing tribute to Clemente. He is the only
player ever to get a -6 arm.

i recently got the '71 cards that they just last year redid for
super-advanced and looking at the pirates i see that roberto clemente's
arm is a -6. now i don't remember seeing anything better than a -5
before (am i just remembering poorly). i guess if anyone deserves it it
is clemente. so how about it? has strat ever assigned anyone a -7? and
has anyone else ever gotten a -6. would anyone ever try to send a
runner on this guy? thanks, e
