Hey, Chris, don't feel too bad about being confused by this. As I
recall, the game company itself was perplexed by how to handle pitcher
injuries when the first designated-hitter teams came out, in 1974.
Someone had to point out in a letter to the Strat-O-Matic Review that
the game company hadn't established a way for pitchers to get injured
in games in which no pitchers bat. The follow-up reply was, "OK, it's
a 6-12 dice roll with the other team at bat." Then someone else had to
point out in the following month's issue that the rule left the
pitcher nine times more likely to get injured than position players;
pitchers were now susceptible to injury every time an opposing
player bats! Oops! Sheepish SOM sources *then* had to come back and
say, the pitcher can get injured only when the other team's DH is batting.

At least they finally got it right, although in retrospect, I'm amused
that the entire 1973 season went by without it occurring to anyone at
the company that they now needed a DH-oriented pitcher-injury rule.

... All other things being equal, yes. Of course, you can ensure your pitcher is *never* injured by never letting him pitch to the DH. :-) ... It's your...

Back when I played the manual game, I never noticed this. It's only been in the computer game that it seems to happen. I wonder if PC game fans have noticed...
