Well the new fencing season is almost upon up now, and I am sure you
are waiting with bated breath for it to start, but since we have a
little while before it starts, let's look back at last semester and
think of some of the more memorable moments.
There seems to be a almost unlimited number of awards shows, they
have the Emmy's, the Grammy's and even the Espy's awards. Well now I
am introducing the Stockton Fencmy's awards.
In the most use warm up exercise category, the award goes to Tim, for
his lay flat on his back and lay there motionless warm up. One of the
more popular and often imitated warm routines of the club.
In costume design, the award for wildest fencing pants go to Shannon
and Matt for I don't know what they are, but they are sure wild
pants. I didn't even know just one pair existed, but they both had
them.
Award for the to best original excuse to delay the start of Fencing
practice goes to Chirssy and Missy for "We can't fence right now, I
need to drive Missy around the parking lot so she can put her hands
out the window so her nails can dry"
In the "If looks could kill, you would be a dead man category" goes
to me! For holding foot work drills just before the closing of Big
Blue, after we pack up early one night, we still had about 10 minutes
be they were going to kick us out, so we decided to do some footwork,
since we didn't do it before practice started, for some reason or
another. … well we didn't get kicked out at the appointed time and
well, you know, how time flies when you havening fun, I guess it went
on for about 45 minute till I notice the time on the clock. Oops,
silly me.
A very close second goes to Missy, after the above incident I would
usually ask if the group had enough footwork when they started to
look tired. Well Missy would respond in her best Oliver Twist
voice "More please" which would draw the looks of ire from the others
who just want to go fence.
The award for best cameo appearance of a fencing club member goes to
Jenny, who showed up practice twice, and even participate in some of
the warm up drills once.
The award for "My other job is being a super hero" goes to Bill M.
for always leaving practice to pick up stranded friend someplace.
In the "I know what I like department" the award for most order food
item goes to Nic for her "I'll have a number 16 wrap, uncut"
The award for best supporting role, goes to Sandy of the Galloway
Diner for all her great service.
In the music category, best original song award goes to Chrissy's
mom, for the Saber song.
In the category of most entertainment driveled from a piece of non
fencing equipment, goes to… and this was a close one.. that stuff
that turns liquids in to gelatinous substances. Much entertainment
was derived from using it to play tricks on people and using
afterward for all kind of experiments and art works. Runners up were
the famous electric shock pen, and Bruce's fencing stick, which was
used in many balancing acts the club preformed and used in
conjunction with my roll of masking tape in the game of Tape
Slinging. I never understood the concept or rules of the game, but it
sure did seem to keep a great many people entertained for hours.
