Here I am sitting in the Stockton Library with my laptop (connected
wirelessly) typing this message and looking out the window. Life is
good. Man, I wished they had this kind of setup when I was a student
here. Makes me think about selling everything I own and becoming a
student again…. Ok, well, maybe I wouldn't sell my laptop, … or my
bikes, … but it is tempting.
But I digress, I just got done meeting with Paul Chambers. It went
well. Here are the things I came away from the meeting.
1. We don't really have much to do in the way of administrative
tasks. We:
a: need to take an inventory of the equipment we have. That shouldn't
take long.
b: We need a roster list of fencing club members. What I took from
Paul was numbers were important in budging and that like. So whenever
you meet someone who show even the slightest interest in fencing get
their name and email address ( especially good it they have a
Stockton email address ) This would serve two purposes, 1, get them
on our roster list and two, we can flood there mailboxes with
reminder notices to come to fencing. We will hold their mailboxes
hostage till they relent and come to fencing.
c: Come up with a budget, actually more a list of equipment we need
for the year. I think I already have a pretty good idea about what we
need, but if you can think of anything, please let me know.
2. Paul said he would have flyers posted about the fencing club
stating the fencing club place and times. We might get some people
out of that.
3. The school club fair is coming up in a couple of weeks. I have
some rough ideas about what I want to do for it. I let you know, when
I have it more set plans. If you guys can come up with some ideas
too, that will be helpful. I can probably make it that Thursday
afternoon and maybe Wednesday (not sure yet). If we can have some
volunteers to man the table the other days, that will be helpful.
Having someone to talk about will generate more interest then just
some flyers lying about.
4. Next time you down at Big Blue during the day and have five
minutes to spare, drop in and say hi to Paul Chambers. He is on the
third floor, in the Athletics admin office, (all the way down the
hall on the right) introduced yourself, tell him you're with the
fencing club and how much you like it (even if you don't ;-) ) and
thank him for keeping the club going. Since we only meet at night, we
don't really have much of a day time present with the Athletics
department. By show up, we are showing there is an interest in
keeping fencing going at Stockton, and it will build some goodwill
towards us. I really do think that Paul and the Athletics department
does want to see us to do well, but with as with any college, it all
a numbers game. If we can show present to them, that will help with
budgeting later on.
5. He said he would actually do the fencing uniforms washing for us.
We can set up some system where we can leave the uniforms in one of
the lockers in a clear trash bag. We will tell him which locker it is
and he will do it for us. What a deal! Can't beat that with a stick.
That's all I can think of for now.
