And all USRKUSA Deshi.
Another great week-end event perfectly orchestrated and supported by
Kaplan Sensei’s Academic Academy of Ueshiro Shorin Ryu.
Hanshi led the workouts not only as the eldest on the deck but also the hardest hitting, lowest squatter
and highest kicker, truly an amazing specimen of physical strength and vigor.
Very impressive was the young deshi of our host dojo.
Answering High Level questions, asking High Level questions
While always courteous.
Truly Karate begins and ends with courtesy on the Karate campus we all shared a
Great event on the journey of Shorin Ryu karate under the direction of Hanshi Robert Scaglione.
Kyoshi Mackay, Kaplan Sensei, Scaglione Sensei, Gobillot Sensei, and Potter Sensei
We were treated to Tug Boat Loads of Sugar on Kusanku from Hanshi and I will never forget sharing
that experience with you all, WOW!!!

To: All members of Ueshiro Shorin-Ryu Karate U.S.A.
Some things in life are hard to quantify – things like appreciation, respect, friendship, gratitude, devotion, humility, and karate-do (karate way of life). We experienced all of these wonderful things in abundance at the November 1-2, 2008 Northeast Dojo Celebration in State College, Pennsylvania.
One of the many highlights of the weekend was the chance to contribute some new memories – and (motorcycle) wheels!! – for Hanshi as he sets off on his next decade of adventure down the warrior’s path in life. Thanks to the generosity of the deshi at all of the dojo and clubs in Ueshiro Shorin-Ryu Karate U.S.A., we were able to present Hanshi with a special, paid-for “coupon” to buy the motorcycle of his choice in Florida. [Stay tuned for photos.]
We thank the following people for making the trip to State College and for adding to the gravitas of our assembly:
- From Florida: Hanshi Scaglione.
- From Northampton: Sense Dan Gobillot, Lou Ruvolo , Nancy Owen and Kenneth Manin.
- From Northern Virginia: Sensei Sal Scaglione, Sensei Joe Knight, Sensei Patrick Markowitz, Lisa Markowitz, Sean Markowitz, and Jonah Markowitz.
- From Nyack (“To-te” Club in Rockland County, NY): Sensei Preston Powell and Alex Powell.
- From Palisades (Pine Forest Karate School): Sensei Elliot Potter.
- From the Poconos (PA, NY, and California): Sensei Chris Barnes.
- From NYC: Kyoshi Michael Mackay, Sensei John Bottega, Gerard Rath, and Sam Suzuki.
We also thank our visitors for contributing to a milestone event in the development of our karate club, i.e., the emergence of our first Black Belt student, Ruilong Ma, who passed his Sho-Dan test.
On behalf of the entire Ueshiro Okinawan Karate Family Club community,
Domo Arigato Gozaimasu.
