One of the most important principals of movement in
karate/kata/training/ & practical application is to maintain zero %
tension in the body while executing a technique,
block/punch/kick/shifting, etc. On impact there is a moment of 100%
tension which is quickly released, back to zero, in order to prepare
for the next technique.
One must learn how to execute the techniques properly. Hitting
makiwara is helpful & practice of kata is crucial while learning how
to do this.
Keeping a tightly clenched fist during movements creates unnecessary
tension in the hand, forearm, & upper arm which hinders free movement
& can cause injury to oneself, i.e. moving quickly while holding
tension.
Research this well.
Keep training.
Sincerely, Hanshi.
