| Italy Amelia -6.0: The Palermo goalkeeper did the job on the night. Had the odd shaky moment but was a spectator for most of the game as Bulgaria hardly threatened. Zambrotta -6.5: The Milan man was his usual self. Always battling hard for his side and his work rate was superb. His runs down the right always caused a problem and gave his side some much needed support up top. Chiellini -6.5: A rock at the back and he made light work of Berbatov as the Bulgarian striker was shackled. Chiellini was first to everything and he won the battle on the day as Berba was kept at bay. Cannavaro -6.5: The captain was a rock at the back for his side. Always calm, composed and collected as he marshalled the backline with authority and his commanding presence ensured his team was never in danger. Dossena -5.5: The Liverpool man was brilliant down the wing but he let him self down a number of times with some uncertain passing and inaccurate crosses. Gattuso -6.0: The Calabrian hustled and did all the dirt work. Never afraid to stick his foot in. He controlled and ran the midfield as he showed everyone he is boss. De Rossi -7.5: His passing clearly comes from the Francesco Totti school of football. He moved the ball as if he was using laser guidance. Almost every pass hit its target. Pulled the strings and almost scored a wonder free kick. A great display by the Roman. Montolivo -6.0: The Fiorentina midfielder did his job efficiently but at times he looked out of position and he didn't offer all the support his players needed throughout the game. However he made up for it with some clever play. Pepe 7.0: He proved just why Lippi called him up to the national team. He was superb down the right and battled away all night. His crossing was dangerous and he had the quick feet and brain to keep the ball rolling in every sense. Gilardino -5.5: Great for his club, struggled to make any impact against Bulgaria. He looked isolated but he did make some good runs in behind but he lacked the service he thrives upon. An average game. Di Natale 5.0: Toto drifted in and out of the match. He made some wrong choices throughtout. Should have passed instead of shoot and cice versa. Errors which could have been avoided. Subs: Perrotta 5.0, Toni N/A, Rossi 5.5 |
