I thought the water was cold when I first got in, but once i started going...i was totally fine.  I was only cold for about the first 5 minutes.  I recommend getting in a few minutes early and swimming upstream for a few (the current is really strong).  That's what warmed me up and then when the race started, I was ready to go!
