We stayed in motorhome last year right next to the park. It wasn't very crowded at all.  It was a nice, "family" atmosphere.  It's located about half way between the start and swim/bike transition.  We're planning on tent camping there this year!

All I remember is that yes, there is the park there across the way.  It is free.  It is a first come first plop down your tent kind of situation.

 

One year I heard it got kind of loud for some reason,  (due to a neighboring group not associated with the Spudman perhaps) but last year I didn't hear any negative reports.
