ORGANIZATION
The Canadian Sport Centre Ontario (CSC Ontario) is a multi-sport organization
that supports elite sport development and performance in Ontario through
long-term partnerships with Provincial and National Sport Organizations
(PSO/NSO). These relationships enable the CSC Ontario to assist with the
strategic planning and implementation of high performance sport programming in
Ontario, and integrate sport science and other holistic services into the
training environments of high performance coaches and athletes that enhance
their ability to achieve international success.
CORE STRATEGY DESCRIPTION
Sport Performance is responsible for:
A. Supporting high performance sport development in Ontario by
establishing partnerships with both provincial and national sport organizations
to assist them with the strategic planning and implementation of high
performance sport programming in the province,
B. Facilitating provincial level Olympic/Paralympic talent identification
& development initiatives and programs;
C. Supporting targeted national-level coaches and athletes by ensuring
applied sport science services are integrated, at an appropriate level, within
their training and competition programmes.
PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION
The Talent Development Manager will contribute to the achievement of the aims
and objectives of the CSC Ontario through:
A. The implementation and management of provincial talent identification
and development initiatives and programs, in collaboration with provincial
Talent Development Coaches;
B. The personal provision of ‘best practice’ high performance planning
support to targeted provincial sports, coaches and athletes;
C. The strategic integration of sport science services within targeted
provincial sports;
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Working closely with the various provincial Talent Development Coaches
and Technical Leaders: (i) identify talented provincial development athletes in
targeted sports, (ii) ensure a clear pathway and plan exists towards assisting
targeted athletes with the development of their talent towards international
success; (iii) identify and manage sport science professionals to be
strategically integrated into the athlete development programs, (iv) manage an
athlete assessment and monitoring program, and potentially (v) design and
coordinate yearly multi-sport training camps for identified provincial
development athletes;
• Ensure the integration of provincial talent identification and
development initiatives within national high performance programs;
• Identify professional development needs of provincial Talent
Development Coaches and Technical Leaders and either lead or facilitate
appropriate learning opportunities;
• Assist the Sport Performance Director with yearly PSO partnership
agreements, and provincial-wide policy development and implementation.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS
• Reports directly to the Sport Performance Director;
• Internal relationships: Sport Lab Staff, Sport Lab Coordinator, Sport
Science Directors, Sport Performance Director, VP Sport Performance;
• External relationships: coaches and athletes at all levels, provincial
talent development coaches, provincial sport administrators and technical
leaders, sport science & medicine practitioners;
WORKING CONDITIONS / SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
• Requires a Class G Drivers license and some travel within Ontario.
• As the Canadian and Ontario high performance sport systems are in the
process of some major changes in the delivery of Sport Performance programming
and services, staff must be able to work in a highly dynamic and flexible
environment.
• Required on occasion to work irregular hours (week nights, week ends,
holidays) and be on-call for time sensitive and priority issues.
 
SELECTION CRITERIA
Education, Experience and Certification
• Postgraduate qualifications in Sport Management/related area or
equivalent professional experience are required;
• Demonstrated experience of leading, managing and/or working within high
performance sport environments.
Demonstrated Technical Skills and Abilities
• Demonstrated ability to lead coaches, technical leaders and sport
science professionals towards performance excellence;
• Demonstrated understanding and familiarity with effective talent
identification and development programmes;
• Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver coach/athlete/staff
education programs;
• Demonstrated ability to foster and maintain effective professional
relationships;
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced environment and organize
multiple concurrent projects with changing priorities, deadlines, and emerging
issues, while keeping management and colleagues informed;
• Highly developed oral and written communication skills;
• Possess a high level of personal initiative and autonomy.
Knowledge
• Demonstrated knowledge of the structure and systems associated with
high performance sport in Ontario and Canada;
• Demonstrated knowledge of the development of elite athletes for success
at the international level;
• Demonstrated knowledge of annual/quadrennial planning.
