Youth Studies Australia, the Journal of the Australian Clearinghouse for Youth
Studies (ACYS), invites submissions of papers for a special issue on youth
sport, physical activity and leisure in Australia and New Zealand to be
published in 2005.

Throughout the world, public health research is focused on the increasing
prevalence of cardiovascular disease risk factors among youth. In addition,
sport and physical activity programmes are recognised as providing an effective
means through which personal and social development in young people can be
positively affected. Focusing on people aged between 10 and 25 years, the
purpose of this special edition of Youth Studies Australia will be to showcase
successful strategies and programmes that have increased physical activity by
young people, identify the issues confronting individuals, organisations and
networks of organisations promoting physical activity and sport participation,
and to discuss future directions and solutions to the challenges identified.
Possible themes of papers submitted for consideration by the Journal may
include, but are not restricted to:

* Barriers to physical activity
* Successful interventions that have increased physical activity
* The role of the media in promoting active lifestyles
* The relationship between physical education and physical activity/ sport
* The relationship between physical activity/ sport, mental health and
self-esteem
