Sport and Recreation ACT

ACT Academy of Sport - Talent Search Coordinator/Sport Physiologist

Position No.:              15088

Classification:            Professional Officer 1

Salary Range:            $33,879-$47,529p.a

 

*The Department: The Chief Minister's Department is responsible for: providing policy advice to the Chief Minister and Government; exhibiting leadership in public sector reform; attracting new business investment and assisting existing businesses to grow; guiding, co-ordinating and supporting various activities across all ACT government agencies.

 

*The Branch: The Bureau of Sport and Recreation manages the ACT Government's involvement in sport and recreation.  Its roles and responsibilities include sport and recreation development and managing the ACT Academy of Sport (ACTAS). The mission of ACTAS is to improve the performance of ACT sportsmen and sportswomen at a national and international level.

 

 

Duties:

 

1.       Conduct, in coordination with ACT schools and sporting organisations, a state/territory based talent identification program for the ACT sporting community.

 

2.       Coordinate the delivery of outcomes for the National Talent Search program as specified in the agreement between the ACT Academy of Sport and the Australian Institute of Sport.

 

3.       Coordinate in association with ACTAS coaches the implementation of the ACT Academy of Sport Talent Development policy.

 

4.    Under the general direction of the Senior Sport Physiologist, provide sports science services to ACT Academy of Sport athletes and coaches.

 

5.    Assist with the planning and development of ACTAS sports science programs.

 

6.    Supervise casual sports science/talent search staff.

 

7     Assist with relevant applied research aimed at improving performances of elite athletes and in talent identification.

 

8     Represent ACTAS and the Department at various forums and on relevant committees as required.

 

 

Selection Criteria:

 

PRESCRIBED ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

 

Relevant tertiary qualifications in the area of human movement and expertise in the area of sports physiology.

 

IMPORTANT

 

1.     Demonstrated ability and relevant experience in the provision of sports science services to high performance athletes and coaches.

 

2.     Experience in the co-ordination of talent identification or similar programs which include liaison and communication with a range of people with specialist expertise

 

3.     A good working knowledge of and contacts within the ACT Education system and ACT sporting associations to ensure appropriate coordination of the Talent Search program.

 

4.     High level of communication, negotiation and liaison skills.

 

5.     Demonstrated management and organisational ability including setting priorities, initiative and meeting deadlines.

 

6.     Demonstrated ability to consistently display customer service principles and practices and knowledge and understanding of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Industrial Democracy (ID), and Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) principles and practices and promotion in the workplace.
