PHYSIOLOGIST - PACIFICSPORT CANADIAN SPORT CENTRE VICTORIA

 

PacificSport Canadian Sport Centre Victoria (PacificSport) has an opening for a Physiologist to provide physiological support to National Team programs centered and training at PacificSport.

 

Major Responsibilities:

 

·         To be the primary physiologist consultant for PacificSport

·        To be a member of the Medicine/Science committees of participating sports.

·        To work closely with National Team coaches to develop innovative programs for athlete testing and monitoring.

·        To set up and calibrate equipment required for laboratory and field monitoring of athletes, and to train new staff in its effective use

·        To conduct appropriate physiological and anthropometric tests on athletes

·        To coordinate biological testing protocols and schedules with the coach and team physician, and communicate results.

·        To process test results, carry out statistical analyses and prepare reports

·        To develop appropriate strength training protocols for each involved sport

·        To conduct applied research projects

·        To disseminate information through participation in coaching conferences and publication of papers in coaching and scientific journals and conduct outreach programs for local sports.

 

Qualifications

 

·        Post-graduate qualification in sports physiology or exercise science or a related area, or substantial progress towards such a qualification is essential

·        A publication history

·        An equivalent of at least 2 years full-time experience in a scientific laboratory or similar facility is required

·        Familiarity with a wide range of physiological testing equipment and analytical procedures

·        Good computing skills including familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet and statistical packages.

·        Excellent oral and written skills

·        Evidence of innovative approaches to athlete testing and monitoring

·        Enthusiasm and reliability

*        Excellent interpersonal skills

*        Ability to work effectively as a team member

*        Ability to work independently where necessary

*        Willingness to work unconventional hours incl. Weekends
