Sir,
We wish to present before you the following

Chess is a very good intellectual exercise and an entertainment. It
is a royal game - a direct fight between two brains. The personality
of a player can be visualised in his games. Great men like Leo-
Tolstoy, V.I. Lenin and Albert Einstein were great chess lovers.
India is said to be the birthplace of chess. But for long the
erstwhile Soviet Union had been champions of modern chess.
Fortunately with the emergence of Viswanathan Anand on the horizon
of chess, India has found her place, in the world chess map. Now
India has 14 Grand Masters and 43 International Masters.

Though Kerala is famous for high literacy and better intellectual
activities this brain game had been in bad shape in Kerala for long.
Of late thanks to the efforts of chess lovers the great game is
slowly picking up in Kerala. Young children in Kerala are showing
much interest in chess.

Our son Gopal. G.N., a sixteen years old boy is a national
chess champion and an International Medal Winner. Though he was
initiated to chess 5 years before he has become a promising national
and international player. He has participated in 35 nationals and 25
international events. He has represented India in many international
events and has brought laurels to the nation. He won the Dubai
Junior International Chess Championship 2003: Won bronze in the
Tehran Asian Meet 2004. He was 4th in the World Youth Chess Olympiad
2004. Presently Gopal is the reigning national Junior Champion. He
is one of the young IM norm holders in the country.

In the words of Justice V.R. Krishna Aiyer (former judge,
Supreme Court of India) "Gopal is a blossoming genius in chess and
will emerge one day as world's number one." And in the opinion of
G.M. Evegeni Vladmirov, second of World No. 1 Kasprov " Gopal is a
highly talented player." According to Russian Grand Master and
trainer Ruslan Sherbakov, " Gopal is a very promising player. If
trained properly he can become a super Grand Master and world
champion."

The problem here is that Chess at higher level is a very
expensive game. Much money has to be spent for coaching and better
tournament exposure. For Gopal we have spent more than 18 lakh
rupees.

Sir, we the parents of Gopal, are teachers by profession. As
parents we tried our best to promote the talent in the boy. But by
now we are almost tired and exhausted financially. Still we keep on
trying to promote Gopal to the best of our abilities.

We, therefore, humbly request you to consider Gopal's name
for a sponsorship so that he may be able to move to the higher
realms of Chess. We will be grateful to you and true to his
commitment Gopal will prove to be a worthy son of this nation.

Awaiting your favourable reply.

With regards,

Aluva B.
