Thanks Ian. We couldn't have had a better time (except if Greg had taken
Cardiff). The hospitality of the British speedway folks is absolutely
awesome and I hope we have the opportunity to repay the favor someday. It
was a pleasure seeing you again and meeting your son and his buddy at
Cardiff.

Sorry about taking the weather home with us but everyone around here would
be terribly upset if we had left our beautiful SoCal weather in England.

Time to start planning the next adventure...who knows...maybe a little ice
racing next time.

Cheers,
Steve

Lil ramirez spun out riding HARD on the outside in turn 3-4 on the
first lap..he was FLYING on the outside line...it pinned his leg
under the machine, so he couldnt get up, causing the restart which
upset River as he was leading....either way i told them boys to lay
there and draw the red for the restart as it is too much time and
money to get dragged to the infield while your buddies continue
racing....River said he doesn't wanna win like that and he needs
starting practice so he got over it real quick. Hey Billy, i want to
get that motor from you and get the spare running so i can put
ramirez on it and see those kids on the same machinery.... Major
Davis is going good and rides very clean!!! He fits his bike pretty
good... Does anybody know how i can get ahold of Mrs. Hancock to see
about River riding at auburn in the north vs. south? Joiner said she
is helping put that program together and i think we found the
sponsorship we need to make that race up there...thanks to my dad...

In case any of you were doubting that Steve, Tom, Gene and Joe actually came
to the UK and believed they were in hiding in Mexico, I have photographic
proof they were in Cardiff. The picture is in the album "Ian Charles'
oddments"

Managed to catch up with them on two occasions in Coventry and in Cardiff,
and they should be thanked for bringing the good weather with them.
(Mind you it absolute p!$$ed down on my drive home to Manchester from
Cardiff on the Sunday, so they are taking it back with them too!)

Oh,..!      Thanks for the correction Jason....

I told ya I couldn't see that good from that pit gate...!     ;- (

So let me AMEND last night's comment to:

and:  "Deanna out-rode all the boys -fair and square  "

           And she DID.

NY State Championship Rd 2/Omar Lightner Cup

Another awesome night at Champion, it truly keeps getting better each event.
There were some great races. Adam "The Missile" Mittl, rolled through the
program undefeated to take his second Omar Lightner Championship in a row. His
only challenge of the night came from Gene Bonsignore, who celebrated his 60th
birthday Monday, as Bonsignore led Mittl for three laps in the last heat round
before Mittl made a very nice outside pass to win. Other than that, Mittl led
every race from wire to wire and was in a zone! Corey Brookes again impressed
everyone by keeping pace, and defeating, some very good riders in D-1, ON A
250!!! Tuff McBride is back riding like he is 20 again! The track was perfect,
the crowd actually had more paid people than the last race! Again, the support
riders put on a great show! All the riders did great. Congrats to Mark Bradley
for his win and to Cole on winning D-3 first time back. **** The next
speedway event on the East Coast is
a huge one, the Monroe Fair Championship in Henrietta, NY on FRIDAY, it has
been changed to FRIDAY, July 11!!! Action Park will be the next night on Sat
July 12.

SPECIAL THANKS TO ALL BALLS RACING, without all of their help we could not be
doing this well! Also special thanks to Russ Cornell, Tim Mathewson, Andy
Crawford, Corey Deubler and John Vassil for grounds help. The whole staff is
doing an awesome job. SKYLARK DINER was last nights sponsor. Thanks to Ron Hills
for all his support on the RACE report TV show.

GET READY FOR THE US OPEN...JOSH LARSEN, SHAWN MCCONNELL, PHIL COLLINS AND MORE
INVADE NY, JULY 25, 26, 27

**** The next
speedway event on the East Coast is a huge one, the Monroe Fair Championship in
Henrietta, NY on FRIDAY, it has been changed to FRIDAY, July 11!!! Action Park
will be the next night on Sat July 12.

Doug,

It certainly was another great night at Champion...things have gone so well this
year! It really is coming back strong. Just a quick correction...Dee Holden rode
great but it was Mark "Battlescar" Bradley who won Support A. You did a great
job in the pits, thanks!

Just back from Ventura - there were 14 Speedway / Sidecar races as part of a
Vintage Flat Track event. It was great to see Speedway back at Ventura, as it
reminds me of Bradford, my favorite all time track (now closed) where Sam
Ermolenko almost won the world title in 1985. It's a shame the event clashed
with Costa Mesa and I hope the organisers can put future events on when there is
no clash in the future as its not fair for the fans and riders to have to decide
and not good for promoters at either place to have watered down fields.

   2 Valve Vintage
Heat 1 - Gary Hicks, Steve Nutter, Chad Newlee, Pat Smith
Heat 2 - Hicks, Nutter, Smith, Newlee (ef)
Main: - Hicks, Nutter, Smith, Newlee (ef)

   4 Valve Upright
Heat 1 - Charlie Venegas, Bryan Thompson, Chad Newlee, Pat Smith, Mike Lane,
Eddie Martinez
Heat 2- Thompson, Newlee, Lane, Smith, Martinez (ef), Venegas (ns)
Main - Venegas, Thompson, Newlee, Martinez, Lane, Smith

   Sidecar
Heat 1 - Joe Jones / JImmy Olson, Dave Alexander / Dave Irkhart, Scoot & Shawn
Driggers
   Lap Record Attempt - Jones / Olsen (17.3 - previous record 19.0)
Main: Alexander / Irkhart, Jones / Olsen, Driggers / Driggers

The Laydown class gave some excellent racing. In heat 1 Phil Collins stunned
everyone by passing Venegas on the line to win. Heat 2 Fishback led from flag to
flag. Hicks won heat 3 after Castro dropped a chain in turn 1. Castro made
amends and claimed the last transfer by winning the LCQ. The 1st semi had
Colline and Hicks penalised for a rolling start. Venegas won, with Henderson in
2nd and Collins working his way to the last transfer as Hicks had bike trouble.
Semi 2 was a classic, Fishback narrowly defeating Castro, with Green and
Facchini exchanging the final transfer spot several times before Russell won on
the line.

The A Main was a thriller. Phil Collins once more stunned the crowd with the
fastest gate and he led the field. Vengas was 2nd, riding deep on the outside,
Fisback third, Castro 4th. Collins, who admitted later he lacked full fitness,
went wide un turn 4 of lap two, leaving the top 4 racing 4 wide and level to end
lap 2. Venegas led Fishback and theye traded the lead several times. Venegas
made one lunge on the final turn but Fishback had the line and Castro snook
under Venegas for 2nd.

Laydown Heat (Top 3 Semis, 4th / 5th to LCQ)
Heat 1: Collins, Veneges, Henderson, Kim Stevens,Martinez
Heat 2: Fishback, N Facchini, Green, Sommier, Matt Davis
Heat 3: Hicks, Tyler Hanson, Scott York, Castro (ef)

LCQ (Winner to Semis, rest to C Main)
   Castro, Sonnier, Davis, Stevens, Martinez

Semis (1st 3 to Main, rest to B Main)
1: Venegas, Henderson, Collins (PL), York, Hicks (ef- PL)
2: Fishback, Castro, Green, Facchini, Hanson
