I also had a question about the sixth mile and exchanged email with Henry
Campbell on the subject. Here is his comment:
"Hi Mo:
I see where a few others had questions about the last mile. Here is what my
GPS indicated. From mile marker #5 to mile marker #6 the distance I got was
1.11 miles. From mile marker #6 to the finish I got 0.185 miles. The end
results was that instead of being 1.214 miles from mile marker #5 it was
1.295 miles. That would make about 48 more seconds longer at my 10 minutes
per mile pace.
See I just had 48 more seconds of fun then I had planned for.. Thank you
race course measurer !!"
If the GPS data is accurate, I figure that there was an extra 427.68 Feet.
