Corey Paul had two hits and two runs batted in as Fargo-Moorhead defeated St. Paul 6-4 in front of 4,414 chilled fans Saturday night at Midway Stadium.
Paul's second hit of the game – a single in the seventh inning – drove in the run that snapped the tie and made a winner out of rookie Nick Roberts (1-1).
The teams will play again at 7:05 p.m. today at Midway.
Dodgers grab Smith: Roy Smith's second stay in St. Paul proved to be shortlived. But manager George Tsamis isn't complaining. The Saints announced that Smith's contract has been purchased by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The 28-year old righthander, who pitched 13 games for Cleveland in 2001-02, will report to Las Vegas, the Dodgers' affiliate in the Class AAA Pacific Coast League. Smith's place on the roster will be filled by veteran righty Kevin Foster, who was 12-3 last year for St. Paul.
