Dear All,

"MINNESOTA REMEMBERS: A MEMORIAL FROM THE
HEARTLAND"
(St. Paul, MN) - Governor Jesse Ventura today
announced that a memorial service, "Minnesota
Remembers: A Memorial from the Heartland," will
be held on the Capitol grounds Sunday, September
16, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. The event will last
approximately one hour and is free and open to
the public.

The governor appeared at a news conference this
morning with First Lady Terry Ventura, St. Paul
Mayor Norm Coleman, Minneapolis Mayor Sharon
Sayles Belton, Minnesota Wild CEO Jac Sperling,
Minnesota Council of Churches Executive Director
Peg Chemberlin, General Mills Foundation
President Dr. Reatha Clark King, Ridgeway
International President Paul Ridgeway, and the
Minnesota Remembers Executive Committee.

"Like most Americans, The First Lady and I were
shocked, saddened and upset at Tuesday's
attacks," Governor Ventura said. "This event
will bring Minnesotans together."

"While talking to Governor Ventura the other
day, we agreed that Minnesotans needed a forum
to meet, discuss and share their feelings of
what had happened," said St. Paul Mayor Norm
Coleman. "Like the rest of the country, this
hits you at the core--Minnesota's capitol city is
honored to host this event."

"Minneapolis and our entire state and nation
have been affected tremendously. The IDS was
closed, federal buildings were closed and travel
at the airport ceased," Minneapolis Mayor Sharon
Sayles Belton said. "We must all join the
governor and come together at this historic
memorial."

Dr. Reatha Clark King will emcee the event.
Those attending include Governor Ventura,
Senator Wellstone (expected), mayors Coleman,
Sayles Belton and Robert Demuth of Worthington,
county commissioners, Minnesota legislative
leaders, various religious leaders, the music
group Sounds of Blackness, the U of M Marching
Band, the Minnesota National Guard, Police-Fire-
EMS representatives and Minnesotans directly
affected by the attacks.

Ridgeway International will coordinate the
program voluntarily. "The events of the last
week have touched me personally, and I just feel
this is the right thing to do," said company
president Paul Ridgeway. "With the help of the
Governor's Office, Mayor Coleman's office, the
Minnesota Wild, Ramsey County, and sponsors that
are getting involved, this event already has a
different feel and meaning to it than anything
I've ever worked on."

The Minnesota Wild hockey team volunteered to
lead fundraising efforts to help cover the costs
of the event. "Like most Americans, you want to
do whatever you can. The Wild, RiverCentre,
Xcel Energy Center and its employees are no
different," Wild CEO Jac Sperling said.

The Minnesota Remembers Executive Committee
consists of John Wodele, David Ruth and
Christine Nelson of the governor's office;
Leslie Kupchella and Sarah Todd of Mayor
Coleman's office; Todd Leiweke and Bill
Robertson of the Minnesota Wild; Erich Mische of
RiverCentre; Anne Freeman of Mayor Sayles
Belton's office; Dave Verhasselt and Terry
Speiker of Ramsey County; Kevin Foley; and Paul
Ridgeway of Ridgeway International.

The event is rain or shine. The Salvation Army
will be providing coffee and soda free of
charge. The Red Cross will have a booth to
collect cash donations.
