SOUTHGATE County 5th XI 2 0 OLD
WOODHOUSEIANS
( Antoniou Ellicott)
In Attacama like weather
conditions, played on the graveyard pitch, County rose from
the dead to defeat neighbour's Old Woods. Our squad
was assembled with military precision by skipper
Lamont, who wisely rested himself until half time. By
then County were ahead and in control courtesy of a
superb finish by a new member Darren Ellicott. The
second goal effectively killed the game - clinically put
away by Danny Antoniou , our new centre-forward. The
second half saw County tire and Woods were well worth a
goal, but nice to see a shut out in the end ( Ed.
Nothing changes in the fifths !). A competitive game
against friendly opposition, just what the doctor
ordered!! (Ed – A friendly woods team ? – what next )

NORESMEN 1 2 SOUTHGATE COUNTY 2nd ( Dunne
Morris)
Southgate reserves started this game with a number of new
faces, but quickly settled into their stride creating a
number of chances in the first half, but only scoring a
single goal with a cross-cum shot from Dunne. In the
second half the opposition introduced a number of
younger, fitter, more mobile players and Southgate lacked
the midfield dominance to stop them from creating
chances. The opposition scored from a corner after
prolonged pressure. The county winner came from persistent
play from Morris. In the end a win is a win, but there
is still plenty left to do if we are to be
successful in the league. MOM John MORRIS

EBOG 2 1 SOUTHGATE COUNTY ( Tyler )
Any one
who either played or watched this game would come to
the same conclusion - how did Southgate not win?
After a dodgy 15 minutes, County settled down to play a
slick passing game against the more straightforward
approach. Good passing and movement opened up the EBOG
defence on numerous occasions, only to be thwarted by a
keeper who was having a blinder. Stones and Tyler
(twice) had good chances, only to either see the keeper
make brilliant saves or not execute the finish to some
good approach play. Then a minute before half time -
the sucker punch and County turned around 1-0 down.
The second half followed much the same pattern as the
first, with Anderson and Brady controlling midfield only
for poor finishing to thwart some good attacking
play. Indeed within a minute of the restart County’s’
best chance was not taken (sorry Peter). With county
looking likely to score every time they attacked some
rough justice was dealt out when EBOGs scored from one
of their few chances. Tyler scored a late goal with
a scuffled shot (the only way that the keeper was
likely to be beaten), to make the final score 2 -1 to
EBOGs. Impressive performances from Brady, Anderson and
Peter (what is your surname?), whose pace was
frightening.

REPORTS OF MATCHES PLAYED ON SAT. 2
September

SOUTHGATE COUNTY 1st 3 OLD FINCHLEIANS 3
( FINN 2 TYLER
)
IT WAS WITH SOME TREPIDATION THAT THE 1st XI TOOK
THE FIELD AGAINST OUR LOCAL RIVALS OLD FINCHLEIANS.
THE PRE MATCH BANTER CENTRED AOUND OUR DEFEAT OF THEM
IN LAST YEARS AFA QUARTER FINAL AND THE EXPECTED
REVENGE THEY WOULD BE SEEKING.
AFTER A WHILE THE BOYS
SETTLED DOWN & WE MADE OUR BREAKTHROUGH WHEN GARY TYLER
REALISED WHICH WAY UP THE NET SHOULD GO ! WE LINED UP FOR
THE KICK OFF TO BE GREETED BY THE ONLY FEMALE REF. IN
THE LEAGUE – HORRIFIED BY THE FACT THAT SHE HAD A
MOUSTACHE BROADER THAN THE FAT CAT ON SOCCER AM !! KICKING
INTO THE WIND & FOLLOWING INSTRUCTION FROM THE BENCH
TO PLAY A STRICT 4-4-2 WE FOUND OURSELVES OVER RUN
IN MIDFIELD, DESPITE THE IMPRESSIVE WORK RATE OF
DEBUTANT DANNY LESLIE & CHRIS BURNHAM. IT WAS NO REAL
SURPRIS WHEN FINCHLEY WENT 1-0 UP AS A BALL OVER THE TOP
CAUGHT OUR BACK 4 SQUARE – (DOES NOTHING EVER CHANGE ? )
& THE CENTRE FORWARD LOBBED THE ADVANCING
KEEPER.
AT HALFTIME THE TEAMTALK CENTRED AROUND PACKING THE
MIDFIELD WHICH WE THEN DID TO ALMOST IMMEDIATE EFFECT. 10
MINS AFTER THE RESTART GARY TYLER DID WELL TO RETRIEVE
THE BALL & FEED KIERAN FINN WHO DELICATELY CHIPPED
THE KEEPER. THE QUALITY OF THE FINISH SEEMED TO
INSPIRE THE REST OF THE TEAM & LEFT THE OPPO. IN AWE.
JEFF ANDERSON BEGAN TO STAMP HIS AUTHORITY ON THE
MIDFIELD & IT WAS NO REAL SURPRISE WHEN JEFF RELEASED
TYLER WHO HIT A CRISP SHOT ACROSS THE KEEPER WHICH HE
COULD ONLY PARRY INTO THE PATH OF FINN WHO FINISHED
FROM 6 YDS. THIS GOAL SPELLED THE BEGINNING OF
SUSTAINED SCFC PRESSURE CREATED ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY BY THE
INDUSTRY & GUILE OF THE NATURALLY GIFTED ROBBIE ROSS.
LINKING UP WITH ANDERSON & ANOTHER DEBUTANT BRIAN BRADY,
ROBBIE WAS CREATING CHANCE AFTER CHANCE FOR THE EVER
WILY TYLER, WHO WAS DENIED BY THE AGILE KEEPER & A BIT
OF INDECISION IN THE BOX. FINCHLEY GOT BACK INTO THE
GAME WHEN THE REF. FAILED TO NOTICE A BLATENTLY
OFFSIDE FORWARD – SHE WAS PROBABLY THINKING ABOUT
LAKESIDES’ OPENING HOURS AT THE TIME & THE BALL WAS WALKED
PAST THE UNLUCKY CHRIS GOULD IN GOAL. THE SCORELINE
REFLECTED OUR SUPREMACY WHEN KIERAN FINN BRILLIANTLY TURNED
THE FINCHLEIANS FULL BACK TO PULL THE BALL ACROSS THE
GOAL FOR GARY TYLER TO NET A WELL DESERVED
GOAL.
WITH TWO MINUTES TO GO THE RESULT SEEMED CONFIRMED
WHEN TYLER AGAIN GOT THE BETTER OF HIS MAN TO PRESENT
BROWN WITH A SEEMINGLY UNMISSABLE CHANCE. 6 YDS OUT &
ONLY THE KEEPER TO BEAT. HE TOOK A WILD SWING & WAS
RELIEVED WHEN THE BALL SNEAKED PAST THE CORNERFLAG FOR A
GOAL KICK RATHER THAN A THROW IN. IN THE LAST MINUTE
FINCHLEY SCORED FROM A CORNER TO MAKE THE FINAL SCORE 3-3
– PROBABLY A FAIR RESULT.
A LOT OF GOOD THINGS
CAME FROM THE GAME, IT WAS ENJOYED BY ALL & WE PLAYED
THE KIND OF FOOTBALL THAT BODES WELL FOR THE COMING
SEASON. ALL IN ALL A GOOD EFFORT WITH A DISSAPOINTING
RESULT.
MOM – GARY TYLER – AN INSPIRATION TO ALL WHO
WITNESSED HIS DISPLAY.

Yes mate I think you should reproduce it, the
more info on the site hopefully will mean more users
and like you and many others have said before you, it
would save the club so much money to use the site.
Therefore releasing funds for football, perhaps we could
sign Patrick Vieira???

After discussing the subject of training last
night with several other members, does anyone know
where, when or if training has been planned for the pre-
season. If not, I know Kieran is willing to arrange and
needs to know what night would be best, Wednesday is
proposed, and where? outside our clubhouse if allowed! I
know several of us are keen to lose the 1 or 2! extra
pounds we have put on, so when & where is it going to
be. Hope you are all enjoying the summer & see you
all soon.
