XI ( Milne)
First league game – first win. With
the referee not turning up and the oppos. Manager
deputising – (we thought he was playing a tune on the
whistle the number of times we were supposedly caught
offside). But our 3-5-2 formation proved effective as Hale
Ends’ midfield were given no time on the ball & we
created numerous chances, most of which we wasted. A
stroke of luck helped us into the lead as a cross into
the box was turned into the net via a defenders head
as Milne prowled nearby. The referee intervened
however when a good long shot beat Humphries but not the
crossbar and the ball bounced into the ground nowhere near
the line and out of the box. Mr ref seized his chance
& awarded a goal to the amazement of everyone on
the pitch. Our second came from our best passing move
of the game as Wingrove & Finnieston combined to
find the unmarked head of Milne. Even the eccentric
refereeing could not thwart our constant pressure and Hale
End decided to adopt the cavalier approach late on
forcing us into a 4-4-2. Crescenzo came on up front and
benefited from Hale Ends entire defence disappearing up
field as the ever industrious Bisogno found him in
acres of space to seal up the game. Unfortunately for
Hale End they never worked out why they were so
over-run in midfield and that sealed their fate - despite
the refs’ efforts. MOM – The back ‘four’ of
(Humphries), Cox, Lewis & Finnieston.

SOUTHGATE COUNTY
5th XI 1 1 PARKFIELD
The fifths’ undefeated run
stretched to 10 months, as the reigning champions let a
vaguely enthusiastic Parkfield nick a point. Starting
well down the hill, the ever reliable defence kept all
at bay, whilst the dual pint-sized forwards ( Pat
McNicholas & Luigi Bille being half a pint each ) running
hard. The mid-field often had to watch looping hoofs
steeple over their heads as nothing appears to have
changed in fifths football. However, pressure paid off as
their goalie (Buddha in a jersey ) charged the ball
into McNicholas & into the net. 1-0 first half. The
second half was a much more pressured affair - shooting
up the Eiger wave after wave of bristling Parkfield
attack was repelled with the ease of a professional
unit. Trouble appeared with a mix up at the back, but
Graeme Corbishley (coaxed out of retirement) recovered
just, picking up one of two injuries which would have
crippled a lesser man, (now we know who’s writing this –
ed ).
Eventually a good move drew the scores
level and it was all hands to the fore, including
debutising youngsters Bannerman & Searle. In the end a point
was well deserved & with a bit more fitness (
hahahahahahohohohoho) the fives could easily win again. Man of the
match goes to Dennis Pobjoy, who as referee decided
Lamonts’ whistle had a disease – only blowing it to start
& end the affair !!!
