Dear Allen
A hearty thank you to you and the leadership of the Southeast Youth
Rowing Association for these arrangements - dorms, eating, etc - for
the championship regatta. These regattas were always a financial stretch
for our public school team - and I'm quite certain this will make it easier
for them this year. Although my high schoolers have now graduated, I
hope to see many of you at those regattas shared with the college set!
yours,
Beth Ragan

Subject: [southeastyouthrowing] 2007 Southeast Youth Championship Regatta

The Southeast Youth Rowing Association is pleased to announce the location of
the 2007
Southeast Youth Championship Regatta.

The event will be May 12-13, 2007

Heats and finals for regional races will be on Saturday.

Events qualifying for the USRA Youth National Championships will have heats and
reps will
be on Saturday and finals on Sunday morning.

This year the race moves north to be held on the buoyed 7-lane 2000m course of
East
Bank Beach on Lake Hartwell in Clemson, South Carolina. Hosted by the Clemson
College
Rowing Club. Clemson crew holds the Clemson Sprints each year and SEYRA feels
that they
will be able use this experience to hold a great event for our programs too.

Please note that Clemson is having graduation on Friday of our event. So hotel
space is at
a premium. Clemson Rowing has secured housing in the Clemson dorms on campus for
the athletes and chaperones. The cost will be under $20 per night per person. In
your trip
planning please make arrangements for a same gender chaperon for every 15
athlete of
each gender that you place in the dorm. Clemson crew will provide dorm security
however,
they are not babysitting our kids.

The Clemson dinning facility will be open to prepare hot and cold breakfast at
05:30 each
morning for $5.50 each meal. The dinning service will not be available during
the lunch
period as most crews feed their crews on site. Friday, the dinning hall will
provide a pasta
dinner for athletes for $5.50 per athlete. However, Saturday's evening meals
will up to
each individual programs. There are several eateries around the campus to choose
from.

The event packet will be available January 30, 2007.

Some highlights of this year are...
Streamlined event categories by reducing the number of events and clarifying
categories.
Last year there was a bit of confusion and the committee felt it better to clear
up and
consolidate some categories. This should prove for great racing. Here is a
preview of the
schedule.

1* Women's Youth 1x
2* Men's Youth 1x
3 Women's 2V 4+
4 Men's 2V 8+
5* Women's Ltwt Youth 2x
6* Men's Ltwt Youth 2x
7* Women's Youth 2x
8* Men's Youth 2x
9 Women's FN 8+
10 Men's FN 4+
11* Women's Ltwt Youth 8+
12* Men's Ltwt Youth 4+
13* Women's Youth 4x
14 Women's 2V 8+
15 Men's 2V 4+
16* Women's Ltwt Youth 4+
17* Men's Ltwt Youth 8+
18* Women's Youth 4+
19* Men's Youth 4+
20* Men's Youth 4x
21 Women's FN 4+
22 Men's FN 8+
23* Women's Youth 8+
24* Men's Youth 8+

The addition of the Ltwt 2x as a qualification event for the National Youth
Championship.
The Southeast has some great sculling programs that I believe will represent our
district
well.

Flat entry fees of $14 per seat with no cap. The new fee structure is different
than what
the regatta has used in the past. However, The committee was convinced that the
regatta
must break even and pay for services incurred by the event to continue in the
future. With
a majority of the SEYC using small boats (4+/x/2x/1x) this fee structure gives
all
categories a fare fee. This will reduce entry fees for several of the small boat
events ,
however the eights will see a slight increase in fees.

Well that is all I have at this time.

I understand your concern. Has the athlete won any race at states, regional or bigger? The parameters of this award go beyond my time on the committee. But they are what hey are and I hope you might aply anyway maybe just maybe that might be overlooked.

Thank you for forwarding information regarding the USRA Scholastic honor roll.

The nomination criteria states:

"Athletes must have achieved success in competitive rowing on the league or regional level, or above."

Our program is so small we rarely win anything.  Still, the kid's show up for daily practice at 5AM.  That is commendable when you have a likelihood of winning an event.

It is remarkable when you know the odds are against you and you face defeat after defeat.

Despite their record, these kids embody perseverance, determination and faith.

Shouldn't there be a way for these rowers to have the opportunity to be on the Honor Roll?

Thanks for caring so much about rowing, and always doing what you believe to be best for the rowers.

Sorry, I will not be at the FSRA meeting on Saturday. If you have any questions concerns or advice for the Southeast Youth Championships Please either email me or Dan Newman as he is your contact for Florida.

There will be a Southeast Youth Mtg at the Hooch after the C&C Meeting the room to be announced later. We will bring each of you up to speed with what is going on in the region and with Youth Nationals.

The Southeast Committee is working hard to take success from last years Southeast Youth Championships and develop it the event further.
Your Southeast Youth Committee is:
(Carolina’s) Byron Walthall <JWalth1590@...>,
(Tennessee) Scott Shoup <sshoup@...>,
(Alabama & Mississippi) Jada Leo <jada@...>,
(Florida) Dan Newman <dsnewman99@...>,
(Georgia) John Pearson <coachjp@...>,
(USRA Youth Committee) Allen Eubanks<coach@...>

I need to know if there are any ideas or concerns national Youth Rowing that I need to carry back to the Youth Committee.

Lastly, I would like to thank all of the coaches that supported the Southeast Junior Development Camp this past Summer. The Camp had 55 athletes from across the Region and a few from the NE and West coast sprinkled in. The camp brought in medals in the several events. I hope that your programs benefit from the kids that return to you.

Coaches and Team Reps,

Thank you for your support and interest in the 2006 Southeast Youth Championship. The link below is the tentative schedule for the 2006 SEYC. Lane draws and the final schedule will be published on Monday May 8th.

http://www.southeastjuniors.org/seyc.htm

To make this event run smooth the LOC needs your help to provide volunteers. I realize that many programs will be traveling with skeleton crews to this event. However, if you have parents, assistant coaches, or innocent bystanders that can help in the operation of this event, we could use them. Attached is a form with the needs listed please send this form back to me by Monday May 8. So I can fill any needed holes before I get on the road to head down to Tampa.

Thank you and looking forward to a great event.

Parking info can be downloaded from http://www.southeastjuniors.org/SeParking.doc

You should plan on bringing your own ice. Contact Marilyn Samaha directly at marilyn@... to see what vendor will be available.

Grills are allowed. You are allowed to feed your team on site and this includes grilling your own food. You may not sell food.

The regatta site is an open field (formerly a cow pasture) with no water or electricity. You need to plan to supply your own.

Passes are usually mailed directly to the teams prior to the regatta. Contact Allen Eubanks at coach@... for details.

Tent space is generally first come first served as long as it does not interfere with trailer parking space or block the emergency road (marked with orange construction cones). This means no tents are allowed from the start line to approximately the 1400 meter mark along the burm road. Also, tents along the designated water front areas are required to be placed with the long part of their tents perpendicular to the water to allow more teams the opportunity to be along the water. As space permits, you may set up all the tent space you need.

For any other questions, please contact the regatta director Allen Eubanks directly at coach@....

Subject: Questions about the SE Jr. Rowing Site

Dear Sir,

This is my first time to the Tampa Regatta. I perused your website, but I did not find answers to some questions I have.

Here are some of those questions:

Will bags of ice be available on site to purchase or will we need to bring our own each day?

Will we be permitted to cook on site for our crews?

Is electricity available or can we bring a quiet generator?

Will we be permitted to get a vehicle close enough to off load supplies? If so, will we need special permission or a pass? (We are arriving in a bus and another club will haul our shells to the site.)

Is it possible for you issue us a pass for one vehicle to gain access to the site?

I saw the locations where crews can set up their tents. Do you have any recommendations on locations or, is it first come first served.

How many tents can each crew set up? (We have 10' X20' tents, and usually set up two to three tents due to the size of our group.)

I ask these questions because I want to make sure we follow your rules and have our logistics worked out for a smooth transition for moving our crew, parents and supplies.

Thank you in advance for your prompt assistance in this matter.

That can work as well. If your program is all from one school do that to make it simple. Coaches, I trust you and unless there is just a huge reason to question a crew. This should not be an issue.

Allen,

Do I need to bring proof of current  school year for students if they are entered in JV events at the  regionals?

Also, next year at the dogwood, consider having a final  and petite final for novice fours and eights.  Oak Ridge is a long  way to travel for only 6 of 20 teams to advance for a second race. It  would be better for the majority of the teams entered to get a second  race.  This would be better for novice rowing in general. This seems  to be a junior regatta.  Most of the open events only had 2 or 3  entries. Consider putting these on Sunday or eliminating them.  SE  colleges already have enough regattas to select from.  SE junior  programs do not.

Thanks,

Ed

Also, next year at the dogwood, consider having a final and petite final for novice fours and eights.  Oak Ridge is a long way to travel for only 6 of 20 teams to advance for a second race. It would be better for the majority of the teams entered to get a second race.  This would be better for novice rowing in general. This seems to be a junior regatta.  Most of the open events only had 2 or 3 entries. Consider putting these on Sunday or eliminating them.  SE colleges already have enough regattas to select from.  SE junior programs do not.

Thanks,

I am going to send a true JV womens four or eight to the regatta.  Do I need to have some sort of proof that they are in the eighth, ninth or tenth (first year rowing) from their schools?

This year I have 7 varsity men, four are lights and have been rowing
the MLt4 all year. I have been entering the MV8 with a strong novice
as well to give everyone a race and have not had any problems until
the Dogwood Festival Regatta in Oak Ridge this year. The MLt 4 and
the MV8 are back to back so I will try to enter a MV4 instead of the
MV8. Here is my problem. I have two guys that weigh 220+ and I do
not have a Heavyweight shell that can hold them. Unless I can borrow
a heavyweight four for the boys they will not be able to race. (I've
tried putting them in a midweight shell and it is not pretty) Can
anyone, who is planning on going to Oak Ridge on April 22 loan us a
heavy 4+?

Hi Allen,

Thanks for sending out the word on John Hunter, except we had a board meeting Monday night and Nils changed the deadline to Monday the 20th instead of this Friday. So we have more time to procrastinate!

See you soon,
Jenny

Well by this time all crews in the southeast are hitting the water. I want to
wish you all a safe
and exciting season. I know that the combination of the southeast will be a bit
strange for
the first few years but the outcome will be better in the long run. If any of
you need
information or assistance with anything please contact me and I will try to
help.
