I'm planning on meeting with the group for an out-and-back run of 17
miles. Is anyone else planning on running out-and-back on the bike
trail?

Dr. Liz Burklee will be at the run at Heritage Park on Thursday, September 28th,
to conduct bio-impedance analysis (BIA) testing - measurement of lean body and
fat masses, and hydration levels. She will set up her table and equipment at our
usual meeting place in the parking lot at 5:15pm.

If you have already been tested before, only the pre-run test is necessary.
Please bring your read-out from your prior test so you can compare the
differences. If this is your first test, you will be tested before and after
your run. The cost is $10 per person and includes consultation.

I will send out a reminder that week and will include the pre-test guidelines.

Any questions, please e-mail me directly at noreene@....

It was great to see so many people show up at the bonfire party last night and
making it a success. Leilani and I would like to thank everyone for coming and
bringing all of the munchies and drinks.

I would especially like to thank Sue for helping me troll for a fire pit to
share (it was a very busy day at the beach yesterday), Molly and Bob for hauling
the table and coolers across the parking lot and sand, and Mark for being our
grill master.

We hope you all had an enjoyable evening. We certainly did!

Hi all,

GP results through August are posted. Thanks to Brad Wobig for helping
me locate the complete Distance Derby results. I found a bunch of
members' performances that weren't listed on the sheet. The good news
is that I count a whopping 58 members who ran that day. The bad news
is many of them scored better than me and now I'm out of the top 20.

Hi,

I want to acknowledge outstanding performances yesterday by two SCRR members.

Sue Zihlmann (runner) and Maike Sander (biker) participated with me yesterday
on the second annual ROADRUNNERS relay team at Pacific Coast Triathlon.

Both Sue and Maike had the second overall best split time of the whole event
for ALL FEMALES in the competition including the PRO/ELITES.

We finished in 1.15.00, one and a half minutes faster than last year's co-ed
team of myself, Fred and Mike C. Maike was just a little over a minute shy of
Fred's fast bike (34.19) and Sue bested Mike's fast run by 6 seconds (18.40)

I'm not sure if their recommended 4:30 time of being in the start area is
necessary. I'm thinking of parking just north east of Walnut and Ball in the
neighborhood at around 5:15am. That would give me a 5 minute warm up run to the
start area and another 40 minutes to hang out until the start.

Anyone else thinking of ignoring the recommended schedules on the half marathon
site?

If any South Coast Road Runners wish to participate in our Yearly October
Mileage challenge You are welcome to. It's a pretty fun on line contest
where mileage rules and speed is useless. The web site is up and running so
you can put in a place saver report no web membership required. We may do
some tweeking of the web site before October 1. snailspacegroup.com
Paricipate regardless of your ussual weekly mileage. The reason for the
challenge is to get people to run more going into the winter slow down. No
cost!

Tim Hood: Oktober Mileage Fest Race Director.

OKTOBER MILEAGEFEST 2006

From October 1st to November 1st. 2006

No membership required to post mileage at http://www.snailspacegroup.com/

To report your mileage you can email me at timothyhood@..., post
your miles at "Oktober Mileagefest" on http://www.snailspacegroup.com/ to
me at Monday and Wednesday Fountain Valley runs or leave me a message at
714-969-8594. You can even mail me your mileage at Tim Hood, 919 Alabama St.
Huntington Beach, Ca. 92648

Be one the first four to 150 miles with 6 reports = super cool prize
Run over 150 miles and report 9 times or more = really cool prize
Report 9 times or more = cool prize (as supplies last, it may be first 20)

If you run and report at least 9 times during the month then there is no
issue.
Below is a more detailed description of the rules due to miscreants of the
past.

THE OBJECT OF THE COMPETITION
The object is to run more and have fun comunicating to other people. There
are prizes for the first people to 150 miles, reaching 150 miles and
reporting 9 times. There is no prize for the most miles other then braging
rights. I don't wish to encourage people running stupid numbers of miles.
For the record 2005 was the total miles record by Dave Campbell with 487
miles.

REPORTs:
Reports only count if you report them one of the ways above. Writing a
mileage report in your personal journal does not count as a report for this
contest. Report all mileage and total from the last time you reported. I do
count your reports given to me by other people.

HONOR SYSTEM
Yes, this event is on the honor system. Let your morals be the guide. If you
have no morals consider asking someone who has them.

MILEAGE NUMBER
You must run at least 1 mile between reports. Decimal miles are not tracked
accurately by me. 6.87 miles might be rounded to 7 miles. Dam those Garmens!

NUMBER OF POST RULES:
If you run 150 miles and only report 3 times you will officially have
reported 25*3=75 miles. The 150 miles won't be official until you report 6
times. You must report 9 times during the month to be elgible for any
prizes. The reason for this rule is that other people need to see your
progress. You can do a last post until November 5th 2006.

Runners,

There are a variety of calculators to figure out appropriate running paces.
I've played around with a few of them over the past 3 years and then matched
the paces with recommended heart rate percentages and it works out pretty
accurately for me. All you need is a recent race time. Everyone is different
and some people like to run their daily runs at a more brisk pace. More
power to you if you can do it and stay uninjured. Personally, I've found
slowing down has enabled me to increase my mileage faster during my base
period. I ran 60 miles last week for the first time and it was easy even
with a head cold. I'll find out in November when I move into faster running
whether that's going to result in faster races. Enjoy

Dr. Liz Burklee will be at the run at Heritage Park this Thursday, September
28th, to conduct bio-impedance analysis (BIA) testing - measurement of lean body
and fat masses, and hydration levels. She will set up her table and equipment at
our usual meeting place in the parking lot at 5:15pm.

If this is your first test, you will be tested before and after your run. The
first test is used as a benchmark. The second test is used analyze changes. If
you have already been tested before, only the pre-run test is necessary. Please
bring your read-out from your prior test(s) so you can compare the differences
and see how much your fitness level has improved.

The cost is $10 per person and includes consultation. In order to get the most
accurate readings, Dr. Liz suggests the following guidelines before the test:

*No alcohol within 24 hours.
*No exercise for 4 hours before the first test.
*Avoid caffeine or food for 4 hours.
*Consume 2 to 4 glasses of water within two hours prior to the pre-run test.

Any questions, please e-mail me directly at noreene@....

One last thing: Dr. Liz ran the Top of Utah Marathon last Saturday. This was her
first marathon! Please congratulate her when you see her.

Greg,

There are several people in our club who have similar marathon times,
including (just to name a few) Amy, Noreene, and Jannay. Hopefully
she'll get some replies on this board. Also, if you can find a
babysitter for a couple of hours, bring her to one of our club runs and
we'll introduce her to potential training partners.
