The Sooner National is over for another year.
As it has been in previous years a very competitive weekend of races for
the Central US.
If you were not here then you missed more than competitive racing, you
missed a huge group focused on our great sport.
I would like to say to each and every one of you who came to 'our' race
here in Oklahoma a huge THANK YOU.
I say this not only as a Track Operator but as a BMX parent, BMX racer
and only one individual involved in BMX.
Not only was this weekend a very successful race and very good for
Sooner Pearl BMX but it was an opportunity for me to get to know more of
you who make up the fine sport.
I had time to talk to many people this weekend. One being Pierce Barker
of Pro-Gate. I have to say I had seen his product in action before at
another ABA National event and was impressed. Now that I have had the
time to set down and talk to Pierce 'one on one' I have seen something
I did not see before. First I saw and talked to one person who does not
race BMX but is more dedicated to the sport than many racers. Not only
an knowledgeable, dedicated and honorable person, a but a down to earth
man who is very interested and involved in BMX racing. Pierce is someone
who has taken his knowledge and built upon it to make this a better
sport. Many of you know me and many don't. Some say I have a way of
seeing things in a different light (if you will) and this weekend I saw
a bright light for BMX. Not only for ABA, NBL, UCI or any sanction but
for the riders. One thing I have always worked for since becoming
involved in BMX is rider safety. Saying that, I believe Pro-Gate is the
future of gate systems in BMX. No, Pierce didn't pay me to say any of
this. I say it for the riders and because this is one thing which is
true BMX and that is 'it is a time for a change'. I say thank you to
Pierce for his time this weekend. I think he understands better than
most! That being said see for yourself.
Once again we here in Oklahoma were fortunate to have a National race in
Guthrie. Yes I do think this is a great race. Yes there will be a 2007
Sooner National (straight from Clayton) and yes it is a very successful
race for racers, vendors and ABA. Not only that but there are great
people here and good people who recognize this is one great race to
compete in each year. This state is a sports state and it looks as if
BMX is one sport which will stay and grow here in Oklahoma for a long
time on the National level.
I want to again say THANK YOU to everyone who came to the 2006 Sooner
Nationals.
I want to invite everyone back again next year, if you don't come then
you WILL miss one of the best ABA Nationals.
Now that this years National is over (and like many other sporting
events) plans have already started for 2007.
I invite you to come next year and see what we have in store for ABA BMX
in 2007and hope you have a great 2006 race season.
Loved every minute of it!

Today October 20th 2005
Sooner Pearl BMX, Oklahoma City
Some time in the last 24 hours our track building was again vandalized.
For all intents and proposes this has closed Sooner Pearl BMX Raceway.
Most everything that was of value was stolen. Just to name a few
items.............
Sure Start box and loudspeaker
Compac computer
About $50 cash
Every thing that was either food or drinks.
All trophy plates (for new trophies)
All race ribbons
All PA equipment, including the wireless mike and receiver.
2 helmets
Track phone
And other items which will not be named.
Whoever broke into our building spent a lot of time working to enter
the building. Most everything inside the building was either damaged or
stolen. Our building is constructed of cement block and there is a hole
about 3 feet tall and 1-1/2 feet wide on the outside of the building
along with 2 other holes which are smaller. The intruder entered a
second story window (after much work). Damaged about 50-75 trophies
upstairs and left most everything else in a huge mess. Our entry doors
was very damaged but they were unable to open it to exit. All stolen
items were tossed out a window on the lower floor. With this in mind
that is why they left our air compressor.

suffered this type incident this year and this is not the only time
Sooner Pearl has had items stolen this year. Our track has been
vandalized several times this year and has lost several thousands of
dollars worth of equipment, awards, concession items, rider apparel.

Here is the latest info on Tyler Pratt.
I know I hope he gets better very soon.
I'm sure he knows there are many people who care about his well being.
Take care.
Richard Axtell
If you could pass this on I would
appreciate it. Tyler was released from Integris Hospital Monday night
about 9:00 pm, he has a broken pelvic bone after crashing in practice
before the State Finals at Yukon BMX. Anybody who knows Tyler should
know if he didn't get back on his bike he is hurt, and as it turned out
he was. He is done fore the year unfortunately, anybody who would like
to talk to him can contact me and I will give them the number. Trenton
will still be competing.
Even though this type information should be forwarded to the track is
seems there has been some movement on the highway relocation project.
Other than the surveying stakes for the project which have been around
for some time now around the track and contacts with SBC and other
utilities to locate buried lines and such there is some construction
starting soon.
Here is a link to a Press Release found about the first of the projects
bids and what is being done with the bid. I40

As of this date we have not received any notice as to when our track
must be closed or relocated.

Im not sure if anyone knows him anymore since it has been quite some
time since he stepped foot out at Sooner Pearl, but I thought I might
pass this information along.
Jeff Renaud, father of Ronnie Renaud, and Brandon Renaud was killed
sunday night while riding his motorcycle. Apparently he was hit by a
car that was hit by another car. The driver sped of that caused the
accident. I do not believe that have caught them yet. His funeral is
set for tomorrow in mustang, but I cannot remember the name of the
place. His obit was in yesterdays paper if anyone wants to attend.
Just to let all of you know. We're not shutting our doors until we sell. We're going to keep doing normal business until that time comes. The reason for this e-mail is because I got a call asking about a particular bike and the person assummed that we had already shut our doors. NOT TRUE!
Again:
"WE'RE NOT GOING OUT OF BUSINESS, WE'RE SELLING THE BIKE SHOP!"
BTW, it's just the business for sale not the building itself. So if someone wanted to own a bike shop at a different location, like I said before: it's all there.

After hours, days, and weeks of contemplating. We have decided that the bike business is not the right business for us at this time. Therefore we're going to sell the shop.
Not that we don't love riding bikes and providing the best service to our customers. We're just not avid bikers. This would be an excellent opportunity for someone who is more involved with the biking community than we are. Someone that doesn't have a 14 month old daughter and a 2 week old son. With an owner who is able to get out to all or most of the MTB races, BMX races, and ROAD BIKE events it could be an awesome shop. All the repair tools, parts, literature, bike racks, displays, etc. is already in place and waiting for someone to take over.
Just wanted to let all of you know that D&K Bicycles in OKC,OK is now online, on the World Wide Web, on the information superhighway.
Our web address is www.dkbicyclesonline.com Check it out sometime. We still have some work to do on the site but, "SOMETHING IS BETTER THAN NOTHING!"
For those of you dealers and website guru's we're sending this e-mail to, if you have D&K listed anywhere, please add our web address to that listing.
For those of you who know/knew David and Kynda Davis as the previous owners of D&K, you all know that they were heavily involved with the local BMX scene.
The new owners/management haven't made it out to the BMX tracks much (never to Yukon) since the "change of ownership", but we're planning on making it out there soon. And we still like to cater to the needs of the local BMX'ers.
Of course we can't leave out the Mountain and Road Bikers-we like those guys too.
Hey Mountain Bikers! We are the closest bike shop to NuDraper! We plan on making it out to some MTB trails soon too.
Thanks to James Perry for the OEF info during his visit to the shop.
SO!!!!! Like the website says, "Let us help you get pedaling!"
