O'Brien at Motherwell

Jimmy, just to point out the reason McCarthy choose Ireland is because he was
ignored (despite rave reviews)by Archie Knox for a scottish call up and got
disillusioned waiting.

Yes, Thierry Hernia cheated but I just can't feel any sympathy for a mob who
send their spies across here and try to persuade, with various goodies,
hard-working Scottish families to part with their talented young footballer sons
to sign up for the Emerald Isle, no doubt making a big play on their Oirish

Without doubt the best two games that I have ever seen Dumbarton play.
Can anyone remember if the games were televised just in case there is
a dusty old can of film somewhere with the highlights still attached

Folks

The DFC website this week has received a number of e-mails on the subject of the
Sons Lotto.

As a gloabal catch-all message (most of the people writing in are on this list),
can I ask that any queries are directed to George Park?

Apologies for waiting ten years with this......

Wasn't this the game we missed two penalties ?
Charlie Gallagher missed the first one, then refused to take the second one.
Kenny Wilson also refused (after he nearly hit the corner flag at Kilbowie).
After a long discussion, Johnny Graham stepped up and missed.

Sorry to hear about the death of Kenny. I probably saw virtually all the games
that he played for the Sons in the early seventies. He was a fine player who
always gave 100 per cent and was instrumental in our
promotion winning side.
He was a member of the trio of Jenkins Bolton and Graham. Definately
the best half back line that have played for the Sons.
Condolences to his family but there is a generation of Dumbarton fans who will
never forget the skill and commitment that Kenny displayed
every week for the Sons.

Yep Rab and remember the balls they used in these bygone days got heavier as the
game went on.
Kenny always looked as if he was running in slow motion but covered ground with
his loping stride
How many of that team would get into the Scotland squad
wilson and big Roy anyone , casper,Laurie oh no he is Welsh
Bolton would be a good shout after watching Saturday

My brother, who introduced me to DFC, still raves about the contribution Kenny
made to the 71/72 championship winning team. A sad loss indeed.

Funeral arrangements are now confirmed for this Thursday 19th, 11am at Woodside
Crematorium in Paisley.

I banked nearly £7,000 for the fund yesterday. This includes the £2835
donation from ACCA but does not include nearly £800 already banked from
ticket sales. There is I believe another £600 to come from players strips
plus the money from the fans who have indicated they want a strip.

It looks like all fans who have applied will get a strip and all that
remains is to decide a fair way of allocating them.

I expect the fund to have around £17,000 in it after the dust settles
although it could be more.

There will be one more event, a dinner in Glasgow in Spring 2010. We have
had many offers from speakers to appear free of charge and also offers of
auction items.

Thank you Sons fans.

I'm sure those of you amongst the 732 who were there today will agree that we
had a fitting tribute to the guy who captained Dumbarton to only their third
league title in more than a century.

The spirit and the banter amongst the players was brilliant. Ross Forbes gets a
special mention for playing the second half despite the fact he must have been
knackered!

Thanks to the stewards, first aid people, programme sellers and gate checkers
who all gave their time without pay.

Thank you to Robert Sloan who provided the buffet for hospitality at NO COST.
This equates to a £500 donation.

Robert McLauchlan of ACCA who worked with Guido handed me a cheque for £2850
which was the proceeds of a five -a -side tournament they had. There were 20 or
so people from that company there today.

Thank you to the supporters of Partick Thistle, Albion Rovers and Stenny who
came.

Good to see Albion Rovers directors there too and thanks to Gilbert Lawrie and
Allan Jardine for representing the DFC board.

Finally, it has been a tough weekend for Gordon Smith but he made the effort to
attend today with his wife and that was much appreciated by the Lennon family.
They were charming guests.

there was blood dripping from a speaker.......

A classic! Especially the night (knight?) when the armies were one
member short and everybody had been "killed" except the one last guy
without a 'partner'. To the biggest cheer of the night he "committed
   suicide".

Or the never-to-be-forgotten Ashley Hutchins piss take:

Five days long on the lavatory
He tried to shit but he could not wee
But the surface of his underpants was showing some disturbance

Unky Rick (who played at amo's engagement party)

Simon Barrow was to have gone to see Yes at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh next
Thursday but can't make it due to another engagement.

He has kindly donated his ticket to the Gordon Lennon Fund.

It's here

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370289864340&ssPageName=STR\
K:MESELX:IT

with a starting price of only £5

I'm sure some sonsteam contributors have still got a Roger Dean poster somewhere
in the house or walk about singing "Roundabout" at work so why not bid?

(Anyone under about 40 will be mystified by now - don't worry about it!)
