Dear Sokol Naperville Members
We are celebrating 25 years as a unit registered with American Sokol and
chartered by the state of Illinois. Since that time we have been under the 501
(c) (3) not for profit umbrella of the American Sokol. It has served us well
but now there are issues that we must review for our future.
I have learned that many of the units in other states and here in Illinois have
their own 501 (c) (3) not for profit classification with the Federal government.
This is most helpful when developing fund raising programs especially for local
fund raising. A 501 (c) (3) classification means that all donations to us are
charitable and can be listed as such on Federal Income tax filings. This is
important as we consider our future growth.
After careful consideration I am recommending that we apply for our own 501 (c)
(3) classification. This will be handled through the law offices of Nyberg &
Cassioppi for around $2,500.00. There is a 20 page form that they will fill out
with input from me and our physical directors as to our financial records. It
takes about 6-8 months for this process to be finalized but it will secure our
future as a unit.
I need to sign papers and send them a retainer for $1,000.00 with your approval.
If you have questions you may call me at 630 355 2572 or answer this email. If
I do not hear any objections from you by November 13, I will confirm with the
law firm to proceed.
