Tony
From my records on Everton:
Thomas 'Tom' Evans was born in Codnor, a small village in the Amber Valley district of Derbyshire. According to the 1881 census he was 28 at the time, so would have been born circa. 1852/53.
He started off with United Church Club, a team comprising of players from 4 Anglican Churches from Everton village on the outskirts of Liverpool and, at the time of the 1881 census was a commercial clerk.
He was a member of the team who played int he very first match involving Everton, a 6:0 victory over St. Peter's in December 1880 and, during his time with the club he is known to have made 33 appearances and scored 3 goals, although these figures could be higher as not all teams have yet been located.
He was mainly employed at right full back, but did make several forays onto the forward line at outside right, as well as right half.
