Yes, it is a contact sport, and yes it happens. In past groups I've
played with, the group was capable of self-policing and calling their
own fouls. I've watched blatant high kicks that barely missed a head out
here get pointed out by several people and no one stops.
As far as the second time I went down hard, the guy was on my left side
and swept across & hooked my right ankle. Yea, I bet the ball came with
it, he basically put a bar in front of my path.
That being said, if people think I'm asking too much, I can always find
another place to play.
