'fluke'???
hardly a 'fluke'.
may be the Saudi's making the field was a 'fluke'. But not when Europe has
16 of the 32 spots in the tourney!!! they weren't even the second best team
in their group of ONLY 4 teams!!! They just don't have the talent that they
used to.
you're just going back to the 'World Power' bit b/c they won yesterday. i
guess you would have still argued the Dutch 'World Power' myth had the
results been different also! sounds and looks really nice on paper when a
Euro team is defeated, however, in this case it's more comforting knowing
that your team lost to a 'world power', rather than a weak middle-eastern
team.
i guess i just underestimated everyone's passion for 'redlight'. we'll just
agree/disagree on how we define 'world power'.
but, why can't we argue on behalf of a team/country that's gonna participate
in next weeks tournament. i think that would be a lot more interesting and
productive. but, if you guys are hung-up on non-participants, then i can go
on and on and on about how it was a 'fluke' that IRAN didn't make the Cup
this year!
THERE!!!

Anytime you play a world power like Holland, the match takes on more
meaning than a regular friendly. - Marc Connolly, abc sports.
The Netherlands, the best team not going to the World Cup... - AP news
plus the announcers for the us-holland game stated that the
Netherlands are "one of the top six teams in the world".
I believe the consensus is that the Dutch are definitly a world
power, and the fact that they are not in the world cup doesnt prove
anything other than they were in a tough group and it was a fluke
that they didnt make it. there.
