Quickly we are approaching the next two races by the Generic Events!
We decided to postpone the La Jolla Canyon Legend 11k an 18 K Trail
race due to all the fires we had earlier this month. Some people
were asking why we decided on that and the number one reason was
Safety. Some of our access points to the aid stations were not
accessible because of all the fires were going on near by we were
not going to have the best response for emergency units.
La Jolla Canyon has now been moved to Saturday October 29, 2005 and
we are currently looking for volunteers to help us out.
Some of the volunteer duties needed are:
· Course marking on Friday October 28 about 2pm
· Coffee pick up race morning
· Crispy creams pickup race morning
· Registration
· Course sweep Saturday (10 minutes after last runner starts)
· Volunteer aid stations
· Timing assistance
(For those of you that volunteer you can camp out with us on Friday
night at race site so you don't have to do an early morning drive
Saturday. You must provide your own camping gear. / Tents, sleeping
bags, food, ect.)
If you can't volunteer or race at La Jolla Canyon we are also
looking for volunteers for the Topanga Turkey Trot on November 26..
This race is located at Topanga Canyon Tripit Ranch location..
Please call me or email me if you are interested in joining our team
for any of these events or future events that we put on. We at
Generic Events understand that you all lead busy lives and we
greatly appreciate any and all help that our volunteers provide.
With out VOLUNTEERS our favorite sports and events would not exist!
Thank you all for your help and love for outdoor sports!
Sincerely,
Luis Canales

Hello everyone,
We are seeking volunteers for the inaugural La Jolla Canyon Legend trail race on
Oct. 1. This is the newest race in our SoCal Trail Running Series. The race
offers an 18K and 11K run at Ray Miller Trailhead, which is part of Pt. Mugu
State Park.
All volunteers will get a t-shirt and goodie bag and partake in an awesome
event. It’s down right gorgeous at this trailhead and you’ll be sure to enjoy
the early morning fresh mountain air.
The race starts at 8:30. Whew!!! Not at 7:30. Volunteer start time will range
from 6:00/6:30 to 11:00/11:30. Choice tasks include assisting with
registration, brunch preparation, water station support, finish line/timing
support and set up or break down.
We are also looking for key volunteers that would like to lead a specific area
of the event or provide support the week prior to the event.
Please let Michelle know if you would like to volunteer by responding to this
email at mlschroed@... or calling Michelle @ 310.991.2787
Also, please know that your contribution allows us to donate a portion of the
proceeds to the Children’s Hospital. The SoCal trail runs always donate to this
amazing organization.
Thank you for you support,

Imagine doing an activity you love with your friends, measuring your tenacity
while pushing your body to the limit, exploring the night, while traveling
through a beautiful area under a full moon!
The Wild West Relay is a 195-mile team relay race in Colorado designed for
runners of all abilities. Scheduled around the full moon in August, the second
annual running of the Wild West Relay will be Friday, August 19th - Saturday,
August 20th, 2005.
The relay begins next to the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in the historic
university town of Fort Collins, Colorado, and finishes in the beautiful ski and
summer resort town of Steamboat Springs. Much of this very scenic and remote
course runs through National Forests or along rural dirt roads. The route winds
through Roosevelt, Medicine Bow, and Routt National Forests, and through small,
mountain and ranching communities.
Team categories are divided into two main divisions: 12-person and Ultra
(6-person).
In the 12-person teams, each person runs three legs, each averaging 5.25 miles.
Categories include: men's, women's, mixed, open, and masters, but we've also
added the "Flatlanders" (all team member must live below 2500 ft.) and the "Hash
House Harriers (the red dress division).
Ultra Teams have two choices - "6 x 1" where each runner does one leg averaging
32 miles, and "6 x 6" where runners each run six legs in rotation like the
12-person teams.
The Wild West Relay has partnered with "FirstCall 211," an organization who
strives to enhance the lives of people by providing timely, accurate, and caring
community resource information and referral to community members and non-profit
organizations in the areas the relay runs through.
This will be a fun and organized event for all runners. An early registration
fee discount is in effect until March 31st.
If interested, please check out the relay website at www.WildWestRelay.com and
come "Get Your Ass Over the Pass!"

Hey everybody -
I'm looking for comments on my blog (http://runtrails.blogspot.com),
particularly the last entry on "what is runner's high". Thanks in
advance and I hope you're having a good new year.
Cheers,

Hello,
I'm Jessica, I'm 20 years old. When I hit 18 I started running
all the time I loved it. I ran an average of 6.5 miles a day. The
only problom was that it was on an eliptical. So if I tried to run
outside...I'd get winded after 2 minuts or so. Well I just had a baby
so I have to start everything ALL over. Just had as in 4 months ago.
I'm lacking the motivation. But I get a little more each day. I think
my big draw back is I'm afraid to put that much effort in to it again
and how hard it is going to be. Instead of doing everything on the
eliptical. I'm going to do it on the treadmill. That way I can REALLY
run. And eventully I'd like to run a 10K.
So I was just wondering. Does anyone have any advise that could
help me? When I first started I didn't have a training program. I
just pushed myself as hard as I could and kept putting the resistance
and incline up until finally my resistance was at a 12 and my incline
was maxed, 20. SO ya just wondering if anyone had any tricks. I'd
appreciate it much.
Jessy

Hello SoCalTrailRunners,
I'm scheduled for a short visit (in three weeks) and will stay in
Thousand Oaks for 2 nights. My schedule will be pretty flexible, but
I will be with my boss who does not run as much as I (40-50m/week). I
figure we can get 2-3 runs in with 1 in the 10-15m range if we're
lucky.
Any advice re: temps/gear and/or links to trail info would be MUCH
appreicated.
Last trip I got see the mtns. (from the car) and run along the beach
in Sanata Monica, but this time I got to book the hotel ;) We are
from the Boston area & lets just say that I'm looking forward to
leaving my balaclava and goretex at home for a couple of days :)
Thanks in advance,
