Damavand
Damavand is an impressive strata volcano with height of 5671 meters that is
located in center of Alborz mountain range about 80 km NE of Iran's capital
city, Tehran. It is the highest peak in Iran and the highest volcano in the
Middle East. The summit crater is about 150m wide and 20m deep with a 40m
diameter frozen lake in the bottom. The mountain and its surrounding areas are
so proper places to climbing, skiing, and hiking.
There are 4 main routes to climb:
1-Southern route: it is the general route and has two shelters in 3000m and
4150m, and the preferred route for Skiing in Winter and Spring
2-West route: with one shelter (4150m) and beautiful view of green plain of Lar
is an attractive way.
3-North face: with two huts (4000m and 4600m) and steep slopes is the most
difficult route, especially in winter ascents.
4-Route of NE: is the longest way, but valley of Yakhar and its icy wall is
visible. It has one shelter (4200m).
None of these routes are technical, but in winter ascents, because of extreme
conditions and cold weather and heavy snow, having complete equipments and
experience is necessary.
The best time for Skiing in Damavand region is from March to mid June
