Saturday Morning Inline Skating at RIT.   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #612 of 616 |
Hi Skaters,

I'm not sure if this group email is still up and runnig but thought I'd give it
a try.

Memebers of the Rochester Speed Skating team are meeting 8 am Saturday Mornings
in the first parking lot just west of the Lomb Drive enterance to RIT, off
Jefferson.  We warm up in the parking lot then skate the half mile loop
that is Lomb Dr.  Flat, smooth and one way traffic utililzing two
lanes.  We skate on the inner lane so traffic is not a problem.
Saturday morning traffic is at a minimum and we only had a couple cars pass us
in the outer lane the hour we were skating the loop.

The team members typically train for 45-60 minutes then we go back to the
parking lot 100 yds away to free skate for a while, through cones,
practice cross-overs,  and work on our double push.

We would like to invite all in-line skaters interested, to join us on Saturday
mornings.  All skaters are welcome to join our workouts or just free skate
the loop and hang out.  The speed skaters skate classic style for our
workouts, to mimic on ice technique, then double push after "official training"
is complete.

Some of our skaters wear recreational skates, the majority wear speed
skates.  There are a variety of skating abilities and we group skaters
based on ability. We ask all skaters to wear a helmut as minimum protective
gear.  The speed skaters can easily be skating 25-30 MPH when
sprinting.  We generally cruise ~15-20 MPH.  Safety is a
priority.

Suggested items to bring; sun screen, water, towel, chair (easier to
put on skates), sun glasses, & snacks.  We have a fully stocked
first aid kit and AED, not that we've ever had to use an AED,  but we have
one non the less.

Anyone can check out our team schedule at the following link:

I can also be contacted via this email or on my cell 748-8684.  Hope to see
you all out skating this summer.

Tom R.

  Sincerely,

           tOm
