Next year Greece joins other local districts including Spencerport,
East Rochester and Fairport in banning skateboarding— ‘the new
soccer’ by popularity. Officials say they want to avoid liability,
the same reason schools ban roller skates, inline skates and
‘heelies’, but ‘according to a 2002 study by the Center for Injury
Research and Prevention at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia,
about 9 of every 1000 skateboarders are treated in emergency rooms
each year for sport-related injuries, compared to 21 per 1000 for
both football and basketball players!’ —D&C

As a local story, but part of the national and international skate
and board scene, this merits a blog post. If you have any direct
experience, or would like to contribute insight or opinion, please
reply. Thanks.

John
