Hi All,
I'm sorry to hear the Marathon has been cancelled. I and several others from
the RSST were planning on skating the marathon. In response to Ians' question,
I don't imagine my fall last year had any implications on this years event. My
insurance covered all my bills in full and I signed the waiver like everyone
else. I'm not fully convinced that it's simply an insurance issue. They seemed
hesitant last year in allowing us to skate, and the logistics of starting and
finishing the inline race outside the park probably had something to do with it.
I have a feeling the after-thought of having the runners and skaters overlapping
head-on for a 2 mile stretch also played a factor.
As for the meeting, I am open on the weekends after next weekend.
This year the RSST will be holding Saturday practices at MCC again. Though this
years will be more organized with focus on skater development. We will be
practicing more drills for the younger and beginner skaters and more interval
style traing for the advanced skaters.
Unfortunately I'm currently sidelined with a injured hamstring/knee tendon.
I'll be off the skates for another 4 weeks or so. Big Bummer! I tore it in my
last race, in Syracuse. I had finally gotten my race form down and won 3 of 4
of my races and took the overall in my category. Oh well, I'll just have to
regroup and look forward to next year. This will also give me a chance to heal
up all my other aches and pains. It's been a learning year, lots of crashes
;^)
I look forward to hearing from everyone and skating in the near future.
Tom R.
