John,
I am planning a Parkway Sunday/City Skate for Sunday, June 9th. I know
you mentioned June 16th, but that is Father's Day.
Plan will be to meet at the Junior Achievement parking lot (next to
Heid's Hot Dog's, which is also open for breakfast) at 9:15am. This is at
the northwest end of the closed section of Onondaga Lake Parkway.
• 9:30-11:30 skate the Parkway into the City and back for a two hour,
11.5
mile trip.
• Take a lunch break at Spinnakers for an hour or so.
• Skate Onondaga Lake Park's 2.5 miles and then cross the bridge over to
the newly paved 2.0 mile section on the West side of the lake. This is
the
first leg in "looping the lake", which will take about five years. It's a
beautiful meandering two miles on a nicely shaded trail. Out and back
will
be another 9 miles. Will be a great skate day if the weather is good.
Please spread the word, would love to have a bunch of you guys join us.
Thanx,
Mike Halliday

Indeed, June 16 is Father's Day, and we may prefer to join Mike and
other folks in Syracuse June 9 instead. The medium range forecast, which
just now came into view for Sunday, places a high over Virginia,
bringing us warm and fair weather. For those who would like to spend all
Sunday or even the weekend there, Jamesville Beach Park also hosts the
Coors Light Balloon Festival: http://co.onondaga.ny.us/Parks/events.html.
We could even go both Sundays. Please reply with your preferences.
