Members,
Our meeting was a great success. We finalized many outstanding items.
Bill Arnett worked his tail off to get us a scholarship application that is
exactly what the club asked for. The club agreed to give out 6 - $350
scholarships to graduating high school seniors in 2006.
The club agreed to spend up to $400 on the "Free Shoe Program" we are
starting with FootwoRx. This should help out up to 16 High School Students in
financial need for the up coming track season.
We amended our constitution and bylaws.
We made a club calendar of all the events we either own, manage, and aid.
We nominated a new slate of officers. They are as follows:
President - Terry Sentinella
Vice President - Catherine Davis
Secretary - Kim Betz
Treasurer - Jim Kopkowski
Newsletter Editor - Bill Arnett
Membership Director - Catherine Davis
Social Director - Bill Arnett
Three Trustees - Dean Taylor, Keefer Whan, Rob Jacobsen
The Thanksgiving run will be hosted by FootwoRx @ 8:00 am on Thanksgiving
morning. They will be serving cookies, snacks, and beverages following the run.
We are having a Skagit Runners run on New Years Eve night @ 11:30 pm. on the
Tommy Thompson Trail in Anacortes. Parking is available just north of the skate
board park on "R" avenue and 21st.
We also discussed having a party around 1/15 to celebrate this past year.
Skagit Runners had a very successful year thanks to all of our members
especially Dean Taylor. Dean and Keefer really are the backbone of our club. The
experience these two have in race management is invaluable.
One of the many goals Dean had for this club was to help out cross country
and track kids, to promote running among our youth. Every bit of money from the
marathon and a little out of our budget went to the high school cross country
teams, has been slated towards scholarships, and the " Free Shoe Program." This
was his legacy, and my goals are the same. My twist is to include the adult
population. I would really like to start classes, beginner runs, etc, aimed to
get people running and in shape. Before I started running I was 40lb heavier and
couldn't run a 1/4 mile. Now 6 years later I am running 2 to 3 marathons a
month. Anything is possible if we set our minds to it.
My Thanks goes out to the whole group for all of the effort put forward in
the last month/year to finalize all of our outstanding items. Now we can go
forward and work on a membership campaign, maybe another race, details on our "
Managed Races", the Newsletter, and most important, RUNNING! See you 12/15
Happy Running! Terry
