Pam Kopkowski brought this up. her idea was they might be interested in
volunteering their time to earn Brownie points. I really don't know where we
would put them, or if they will be willing to help. Just an idea.

Subject: [skagitrunners] Marathon meeting 5/26/05
Just a recap of what we talked about during our meeting.
1) Awards, we are going to need 108 awards to cover both the 1/2 Marathon
and full. We would like to keep the price about the same as what we spend last
year. This might be hard to do unless we buy ribbons for 2nd and 3rd place
finishers. Personally I feel running a full Marathon and placing they deserve
something nicer than a ribbon. It might be alright for the 2nd and 3rd place
finishers in a 1/2. The ideas for Awards were hats, jackets, pins, ribbons,
acrylics, fanny packs, or Indian art. We are open for more discussion on this. I
would like to come to a decision by July.
2) Expo, Steve is going to work on getting a big map from the county so we
can use it at the expo. We will also have smaller maps for participants to pick
up. We have room for a few booths Pam is going to ask the Hospital in Mt Vernon
if they want to set up a table and possibly be a sponsor for our event. I
measured the Breakfast room at the Cotton Tree Inn and need to get the
dimensions to Pam so she can start figuring out how she is going to set it up.
3) Advertising, I need to get a hold of Martin Rudrow about covering our
event in Northwest Runner and distributing our trifold applications. I also need
to get more applications printed. If any club members are going to attend races
in the near future get a hold of me and I will get you some applications to
distribute at the race.
4) Signage, We discussed the signs we have and weather we need new ones. At
the Olathe Marathon I ran last week I noticed their signs. They put signs out
letting people know that a Marathon was going to take place on Saturday, and
have very easy to read mile marker signs, probably the best I have seen. I would
like to get some similar for our event. We need to look at the cost of buying
new signs and see what we need. Steve mentioned that we have a couple of signs
stolen last year. More discussion needed on this.
5) I need to send letters out to the Municipalities. I have already received
their approval, just need to finalize this.
6) I need to talk to the Sheriff's office about traffic control on Exit 231
for about an hour at the beginning of the Marathon.
7) Everyone decided the Logo put on the right shoulder of the shirt.
8) I need to talk to the Brooks representative and discuss race numbers,
shirts, free shoe coupons, etc.
9) Jim agreed to talk to Costco about donating food for our event.
10) Neighborhood drop mail a few weeks prior to the Marathon.
11) Need to find a list of last year entrants. Hopefully Wendy Scott has
this.
12) Need to talk to the photographer again and set up a time to drive the
course with him. He wants to find a good spot to take pictures.
13) Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts possibly helping out during the Event, Pam is
going to look into this.
Any and all comment welcome on these issues. Most of these items are still
up in the air. I have since thought of a few issues we need to discuss. I set up
a spread sheet with everything We have done so far in preparation for the
Marathon. Hopefully this will expedite the preparation and help us finalize a
few of these items.
