Although there are already several Sunday morning runs in Bellingham (such as
Fairhaven Runners and Bellingham Fit), we (Steve Duncan & Nels) are going to
open up our weekly Sunday morning run to whoever wants to join us. Two of us who
ran cross country at Western in the late 80's and early 90's started running
together on the weekends about 3 years to try to get our big fat bodies back in
shape. After switching between Saturdays and Sundays and varying the times and
locations (in the beginning we would travel as far as Whidbey Island), we
settled on Sundays at 8:30 am, usually starting from the Rotary parking lot off
of Old Fairhaven Parkway in Bellingham. We usually run about an hour together on
whatever course we decide to run that day at about 8 minutes per mile, slowly
increasing the pace during the run. Sometimes I run the Interurban at a slower
pace afterwards to get in a long run. Over the last year we have invited others
to join us if we think of it.
To allow others to know where we are meeting, I will try to post to the Group
Runs page at www.skagitrunners.org where we plan to meet and how far we plan to
run by Friday night. This will allow anyone who is interested in a moderately
hard run on Sunday to join us. If you are interested in joining us, check the
web page on Friday and show up on Sunday at the meeting place ready to run. We
won't be waiting for anyone who is late unless we know to wait for them. Email
sduncan359@... if there are questions or talk to me (Steve Duncan) at
one of the weekday FootwoRx runs. I will also build up a mailing list of people
who are interested and send a mail to the list on Friday when I update the Group
Runs page. Send me an email if you want to get on the list.
There will be some Sundays when we don't run due to weather, injuries, or one of
us being out of town. In those cases, I will post that the Sunday run is
cancelled. It is also possible that my leg may break in half again, in which
case the runs will be cancelled indefinitely unless someone else takes them
over. However, for next week we talked about running from Zuanich Park to
Cornwall Park and back again, so this is tentatively the course for next week
(probably around 7 or 8 miles).
On a related note, it appears that Ruth's coffee and run or walk groups have
been cancelled due to work obligations. Once that gets going, we will try to
coordinate the two groups.
