Hi all. Just joined. I was searching for more info on
Revie's Leeds after just finishing both the Jack and
Bobby book by Leo McKinstry and 71 Guns, the story of
Arsenal's first double by David Tossell. Both were
pretty scathing about the Leeds side of that era - of
which I am intimately familiar - but I can never know
too much about football so I searched the web and
found this group. Should be fun.
I saw in the recent archives a thread about shirt
manufacturers back then. Gola, Admiral, Umbro and
Bukta were the big names in the UK - indeed Admiral
were probably the brand that took shirt marketing to
new levels when they brought out the Leeds "smiley
badge" all-white number and the even more marketable
yellow with blue/white trim away kit. From memory
Bukta also sold quite a few Newcastle shirts in the
Supermac era. Liverpools kit was indeed made by Umbro
back then, as was Man City's. No sure about United
although it was probably umbro.
BTW, about me. 38 years old, football obsessive, born
and bred New Zealander still in Auckland, school
teacher/student, support Leyton Orient, England and
think the 1974 Dutch side the most exciting team ever
to grace the planet, followed closely by Brazil 1970.
DJ.
