Thanks Theo. I think I'll try to talk someone into bringing some Metaxas back
from Greece this Summer, like most Brits I'll be staying at home I think!
Â
Interesting that Crete actually got a team into the Greece First Division, I
alweays remember the sensation in Italy when the Sardinian team Cagliari (or was
it Sicilian) that Luigi Riva played for got into the Scudetto around 1970. I
think before then it had always been exclusively mainland Italy.
Â
I take it no other islands in Greece could really get that good, how about the
Peleponnese? Isn't Patras on that?
Â

I make a mean bottle of sloe gin when I can get around to it...

Hello Robert
Metaxa 5 ***** is an excellent choice, indeed Runs around 6€ (about a fiver(
in the local sellers, excellent value for many If you care for more
..exclusive (collector items) for Christmas (I would love such present!) let me
pass yoy an e-mail address to get
ΜΕΤΑΧΑ 5 ****50 years old for € 150
Votrys (another splendid choice) 80 yrs old €200
ΜΕΤΑΧΑ DRY 95 yrs old €300
To get back to football, yes, Crete claims OFI Crete, one Greek Cup in 1987 who
made it to the UEFA Cup a few times and had some famous exports , mainly Nikos
Machlas, top scorer in Holland with Vitesse and Nicky Papavassileiou who played
a few Premier League Games with Newcastle
They were relegated this season, though!

Hi Theo, in my time in Greece -sadly I have not visited there since 1982, now -
I got a taste for Metaxas 5-star brandy. How much is that now a bottle?
Â
Most of the places I visited on holiday have since been ruined by
over-commercialism. In 1977 I lived on the beach in Mallia, Crete, I expect
where we camped out is under metres of concrete now! Then there was only a
huddle of houses and a few "pensions" bordering the main road. Memories.... too
much ouzo, and an overnight encounter in the women's dorm of the local youth
hostel...ermm. ..

PS Has a good football side come from Crete?

All right, did not fancy the cigar , anyways! I quit cigarettes and cigars (mind
you, I do not write "smoking", there are also pipes, thanks God!) And, frankly,
most of the Double photos I can recall are in long sleeves Could go for an
educated guess, but it would not be fair The hair looked short, too
Ready for the solution
Nice one, really Eagerly waiting the extra ones
Theo

Theo, mate, you got the Manc alright but you don't win the cigar, I am afraid.
The Gooner in the photo was famous for his tattoos. You can see both his
forearms covered in them. That's why he usually kept his sleeves rolled down.
That Arse crowd back then were a rough old lot. Ask any old London cabbie. *L*
I'll stick some more 70s photos up as a consolation prize.
